Hey folks -

My mini is in service (yet again).  I've found out something that all 2008 owners should look for and if they are experiencing it, they should take their mini into the dealer.  They are replacing my catalyst and sending it to germany for Mini to look at.

Here's the symptoms to look for

1) slight grind or rough shifting between gears (it was 1st and 2nd gears for me)
2) only occurs when the car is cold, but acts just fine when its warmed up
3) It's not entirely consistent.

Cheers!

Alex

I know the tranny's made in Germany.  What's the catalyst?

I've been looking for updates from you, Alex.  No more brake problems?

On board with Dave. Please explain.

Sorry for the delay folks.  False alarm!  NW Mini gave me the information for another owner who brought in a mini named Alex...whew....all is good.

Somebody is always calling my house for Tardis...

Ulysses says: "No, this is his brother you have the wrong number, he doesn't live here"...

And then they call back twenty seconds later....

Good to here that for you, but I still don't understand how catalyst plays into a bad gearbox?
FYI I grabbed Dave's post because I think he has the same puzzlement as I.

Humm
Let me try and read into this, are you saying that you took it in because of the described problems and they called you back about some catalyst ^%$#&#&^ thing and had the wrong Alex? If so what about your gearbox?

This sounds almost as bad as going to the a Military hospital. Gee John we need to prep you for a vasectomy , I don't think so " I AM HERE TO GET A PIECE OF METAL OUT OF MY HAND".

NW Mini couldn't find anything wrong with my gearbox.  I've got inconsistent rough shifting/grinding when its the car is cold.

So...this could be a long term issue. =(

Fortunately, the mistake was only at the advisor level.  No unwanted work went into my mini.

Alex

PS - Brakes are working as intended!  Yay! Wink

Still a Getrag 6-speed... but a little different than the R53.
