So ... It turns out that the tail pipe support just beyond the cat decided it was tired.  The flat plate portion welded to the top of the pipe separated from the pipe, leaving a jagged two-finger hole, which in turn split the flexible support on the other side of the plate.

One short visit to Muffler King in Kirkland, as recommended by the guys at ZahnTech, and all is well.  They welded everything back together for a price I considered more than fair, not to mention I had only scheduled a look-see appointment, and they made me feel like a real customer.  I'm told they had never seen that before on a MINI.  And no, I didn't power over any median barriers!

Give these folks a try if/when you have the need.

You folks on the eastside of the Sound are pretty lucky with service choices.  Over hear tractor wheel repair seems to rule the day.  There is a decent Porsche repair facility but MINI is left hanging.
I wish there was a local MINI Dealership, like our Honda, Subaru, Mazada and VW.

Service choices ... Why yes we are.

However, I'd trade my 1-2 hour commute for lots of things related to lack of overcrowding.
