Greetings! I want to announce that registration is open for the 34th annual Tulip Rallye to be held on Saturday, April 25th, 2015. Starting point is the Cascade Mall in Burlington. You will find registration forms at the MG Car Club NW Centre website on the home page (scroll down to the listing) or on the calendar for that date. Links: Website: http://www.mgccnwc.com/ Most of the event details are unchanged from previous years, BUT this year there will be a reserved parking area for pre-registered cars. This will allow pre-registered cars to be first out on the course while the day-of folks have to wait and watch! Also the first 150 cars to register will receive a dash plaque. T-shirts are available for pre-purchase. Thanks, Bert Cripe Tulip Rallye co-chair Edited by BurnerS - March/30/15 at 8:22am |

Form already filled out and sent in yesterday.
It's not that hard to find it on their website, even if they haven't officially made the announcement. Bruce and Stacie |

So do we meetup as a group for this one, or how does this work? If so, do I just hunt for a big group of minis?

THIS JUST IN!! Details on our usual drive in to the rallye starting point. The other cars always enjoy seeing the MINIs all pull in together and this has become a tradition for us all to "congo line" in to check in.
When: Saturday, April 25th • Meet at Smokey Point Rest Area 7:45am • Brief drivers meeting 8:00am • Motor north 8:15am • Arrive to rallye starting point 8:45am Start: PSMINI gathers at the Smokey Point Rest Area off I-5 N about 1 mile after exit #206. Meet on the truck parking side. When you exit I-5 at the rest stop take the left towards the truck parking. Using the truck side of the rest stop provides much more room to park and gather. We will then motor North at 8:15 precisely and regroup at the Burlington Mall entrance near Sears. Once regrouped, we will enter the starting point together. Some more notes about this event: What to Bring: o A navigator! It is very hard to do the rallye alone as there are very detailed driving instructions to find your way along your designated route. There are also questions to answer along the way and we don’t really want drivers taking their eyes off the road too long o FRS Radio (if you have one) set to channel 7 sub-channel 21. Come early if you need help setting your radio. We will use the radios to help coordinate motoring as a group up to the start of the Tulip Rallye. o Your picnic lunch. It is recommended that you pack your own lunch and enjoy it along the way while completing the challenge or at the end of the event while scores are being tabulated. o A canned food item, many canned food items, or cash donations. MGCCNWC will be collecting donations for a local food bank at the event. You can drop your items off at the registration desk at the start point of the Tulip Rallye. o Your sense of adventure! Remember this is a trivia style rally so keep a sharp eye and a sense of humor. Those having the most fun generally score the most points and those running the route the fastest don’t do as well. Having fun > speed during this competition. o Your registration form and $15 entry fee if you did not pre-register and pay. We will see you all on Saturday the 25th! Pre-registration deadline is the 16th!
Please note that we have reserved parking for pre-registered cars AND they will be leaving first. Day of registering cars will have to wait until all of the pre-reg cars have left! Please enter the mall at the south entrance, since our starting and returning area is the south end of the parking lot next to the former Sears Store. Yes, Sears is gone and so is their sponsorship Thanks to all of you for your support and I wish you luck and have fun! Bert Tulip Rallye co-chair

Hi, I'll jump in here with an "unofficial" response :-) The Rallye is kind of a 3-part thing: 1) The MINIs have always made a Grand Entrance as a group, so the more we have, the more impressive our entrance. I think some people have even come just to be part of that, 2) there are great cars from all kinds of clubs and individuals, so if you like everything from Classic Minis to new Corvettes, and lots in between, this is a chance to enjoy looking at all of those before the Rallye actually begins, 3) the Rallye itself is not about speed, in fact, you are strongly encouraged to obey the local speed limits and watch out for pedestrians & cyclists (particularly if we go anywhere near the Tulip fields). The Rallye is really about seeing some great scenery and going on back roads you may not have experienced before, while answering questions from clues along the course, as well as some other trivia thrown in for fun. Your Navigator is a big part of reading the course instructions and the questions, looking for clues, etc. If you operate well as a team in this regard, you have a great chance of winning . . . our traditional winners are Bruce and Stacie - a Superb Team who have repeatedly won and made PSMINI look really good! So unless, the baby is due VERY Soon and you don't want to stray from home, the Rallye is very safe and not a speed event. Hope that helps! Cheers! |

A PS to Genie's great post: I've done it while pregnant (and with a baby along for the ride). There are usually check points with restrooms and you can always stop along the route for anything you need. You are working independently and not tied to the pace of other cars.

So a dumb question, but about how long does the event take? We missed pre-registration, so we'll be starting later; but we're still planning on meeting at the rest area to join the MINI arrival. Sounds like lots of fun! Thanks!

usually takes 2-3 hours and then folks hang out and wait for final score tabulations in the early afternoon. So even if you get a later start you will be fine...

The route is ~75 miles long and you will have a minimum of 4 hours to drive it.
Day-of registering cars will be directed into a parking area from which they will be sent out on a first-in, first-out sort of basis. Note to all of you: please enter the mall at the South end (off of Burlington Blvd), since we are starting from the South end instead of the north end this year... Bert Cripe Tulip Rallye co-chair

How long will it take me to get to the Smokey Point rest area you ask? I don't know, but the maps of google does. Go to "get directions" and put in your home address on line a and for line b put in "free coffee" and you will probably get a suggestion of "free coffee Arlington, WA". Go with that and if you are coming from the south zoom into the "free coffee" point and then drag the pointer to the other side of the free way. That's where we are meeting up and then it will tell you how long to get there.
There is no guarantee that they will actually have free coffee at the rest stop on Saturday morning. Bruce |

Had a blast yesterday! First rally in 35+ years and actually got a trophy..
O.K. so it was for the "Hard Luck" but we did have a time getting there and during the race. Bottle of water leaked, food soaked, an finally a pink backseat caused by the box of Good and Plenty candies that opened and mixed with the water.....Lots of clean-up but got it all out. Anyway had a blast..Will do it again next year. Teena & Scout |
