My '02 R53 Cooper S just turned 121,000 miles. For many years, my gas mileage was 27, every refill resulting in twenty-seven-point-something miles per gallon. My driving habits changed, fewer 50-100 mile trips every month, and more to-and-from the park and ride. That resulted in a reduction in my per-tank average to 24, and sometimes only 22. Over the weekend, I drove from Shoreline to Winthrop and back, doing the whole trip on a single tank, averaging just over 33mpg. I've been using the very expensive Shell V-Power, and, while I didn't change from Chevron to improve my mileage, I'd read some stuff that indicated people were seeing improved mileage. I had averaged 33mpg on a road trip to the Oregon coast a few years ago, but that didn't involve any mountains, and very little running over 60mph, while my recent trip included a lot of cruising at 70. I'm still suffering from a bit of a stumble on initial tip-in when cruising, but when running through the gears or maintaining higher-than-usual revs the car is running great, and I might be getting one or two more MPG than I would have in the past. |
