Last call for a final count.  I'm sending the numbers to the BBQ place tomorrow, please check and make sure you are in or out as you desire

Will we(4) still be able to join the BBQ at this late stage?

Yes, I asked for up to 80 so we have a few to spare.

You probably did, there have been so many posts that I’m sure I missed something.  The BBQ place will be fixing for up to 80 so we’re covered.  Thanks for pointing it out though.  As they say, the dye has been cast.

Been stoked for this for quite a while. The checklist is complete:

  1. Kids off with some relatives (forget who, doesn't really matter) -- done
  2. MINI washed and full of fuel -- done
  3. Mrs. Cupcake caught up on General Hospital on the Tivo -- Ten Four!
  4. MP3 player (I'd say Zune, but nobody knows what that is) loaded with road trip songs (disco for Mrs. Cupcake. Rascal Flats for Mr. Cupcake) -- done
  5. Read the mc2 article on traveling in groups -- complete, with some differing opinions when it comes to speeding (In Jeff's case, it should be allowed so we can ooo and ahhh)
  6. Packed: one set of undies, one bathing suit -- done
  7. Quick glance at bank account -- check!
  8. Review and re-review of all the threads -- yep
  9. Made embarrassing post after bottle of Cabernet -- see entry No. 1!

Just need to set the alarm and re-stock the Starbucks card and we're ready.

Zune is the name of a brand of digital music services sold by Microsoft. It
includes a digital audio player and client software incorporating an online
music store. [2] The device plays music and videos, displays images,
receives FM radio, and on a limited basis shares files wirelessly with other
Zunes and via USB with Xbox 360s. The Zune Software allows users to
manage files on the player, to rip audio CDs, and to buy songs at the
online Zune Marketplace. Zune was released in the United States on
November 14, 2006 and is compatible only with Microsoft Windows and
the Xbox 360.
Digital rights management
The Electronic Frontier Foundation, which opposes DRM, wrote:
"Microsoft's Zune will not play protected Windows Media Audio and Video
purchased or 'rented' from Napster 2.0, Rhapsody, Yahoo! Unlimited,
Movielink, Cinemanow, iTunes, or any other online media service. The
Zune will not even play content previously purchased from Microsoft's
own MSN Music service. ...The media that Microsoft promised would Play
For Sure doesn't even play on Microsoft's own device."[65]

The EFF calls this "a stark example of DRM under the DMCA giving
customers a raw deal."[66]
DRM critics say Zune's wireless-transfer policy is restrictive and unfair.
They claim the Zune is more restrictive than the face value of this
common phrase — "three days or three plays whichever comes first."[67]
[68][69] Because among other things, extra restrictions:
apply to songs for which the recipient owns a paid-for and current Zune
Pass;[70]
force 'three-days three-plays' rule indiscriminately to any audio content
after being transferred between Zune devices;[69][71]
expire a song in three days even if it has not been played at all;[citation
needed]
show playing a portion of a song counts as one "play";[72][68][73]
prevent someone attempting to re-trade a traded song.[73]
DRM critics also note that researchers have reported that about 40% of
the most popular Zune store downloads cannot be shared, which trigger
the message "cannot send some songs due to rights restrictions."[74] A
Microsoft spokesperson attributed the problem as being a "new
experience, and its implementation is in a version 1.0 stage" and saying
that the company "is working to expand the number of songs that can be
shared."[75] Initially, observers criticized two music publishers, UMG and
Sony, for what was assumed to be an intentional restriction, while
criticizing the Zune Marketplace for not disclosing which songs could not
be shared.[76] Music publishers denied having placed any such
restrictions.[75]
Leo Laporte, technology reviewer of G4techTV (Canada), said in his
November 11, 2006, radio show that Zune may be the "beginning of the
end" for DRM as a business tactic.[77]
[edit]Usability
James Kim, the late CNET editor, criticized the Zune for failing to play TV
shows recorded using Windows Media Center's digital video recorder
(DVR) software, function as a hard drive, wirelessly sync to its host
computer, support seamless music transitions with gapless playback, or
playback lossless audio.[78][24]
Michael Kaplan, the technical lead from globalization infrastructure,
fonts, and tools at Microsoft who works on collation, locales, unicode,
and native language support claims the Zune can only display English text
and can't even get his music files to properly describe themselves on the
device.[79]
The Zune is restricted to specific Windows platforms,[80] with its
proprietary MTP protocol rendering it unusable with Mac OS X or GNU/
Linux. Initially, the Zune Software had been criticized for faulty device
detection and buggy installation.[81] Web 2.0 users find that a lack of
podcast support, gaining popularity as a medium for information,
disappointing as it is not part of the Zune Software package found in
competing products. They also find it disappointing that there is no
support for Audible.com's audiobooks found in competing products.
Zune users have reported difficulty finding others with whom to wirelessly
share files, with the "no nearby Zune devices found" message appearing.
[82] Ina Fried, CNET reporter, took two rounds through San Francisco to
locate one Zune to share after two weeks of the device launch.[82]
Technology journalist Steven Levy conducted a survey "in the wild" and
within Microsoft's events and found only one Zune user out of a crowd of
many in both occasions willing to share music.[83][84]

The Meet Up’s:

North End: (8:00 AM Leaving) group meet at the South Bound I-5 rest area, just south of the Everett Mall exit, and north of 128th street exit in Everett.  We thought about Ash-Way for this one but the numbers of mini’s, and the multiple lights to get on I-5 makes it a challenge.  So the rest area we scoped out and easy on and off as a group.

Mid Point:  The North group will go south on I-5 to I-405 and south on I-405, picking up a group at 160th and I-405 (I will call Dave about 10 minutes out from the meeting location.)

Southern mid point: (Meet approximately 8:45) Bahama Breeze parking lot at Southcenter Mall, junction of I-5 and I-405 (will call Eric at about 10 minutes north of 167/405 junction)

South End:  Will meet the south end group at the Safeway shopping center, south of South Hill mall, 224th St. SE and Meridian Ave E in the Graham area. (North end group will arrive between 9:15 and 9:30 I hope.)

Saturday Route: We’re still working on a few twists and turns, you’ll all enjoy, but the basic plan is south and then east to Yakima for a meet up with the Yakima group, and lunch.  Then up to Wenatchee on some alternate highway roads.  Saturday night in Wenatchee with everyone on their own for dinner, another words no planned group dinner.

Sunday Route: North from Wenatchee on some alternate and side roads up to our group  catered BBQ lunch in Winthrop.  Plan on a couple of hours for lunch and checking out the town.  After lunch we head west over the North Cascades hwy and then south through Darrington and Arlington.  From that point everyone is on their own for heading home.  North/South on SR-9, North/South on I-5.

BBQ Cost: The BBQ lunch on Sunday is $10.00 a head and includes BBQ Pork sandwich, Potato Salad, Ice Tea or Lemonade.Drool  Lunch on Saturday is scheduled for Miner’s dinner in Yakima.  (Warning – Huge portions, Irene and I could of shared a lunch)  Dinner on Saturday is on your own, and with any typical city the choices are all over the place.

Jeff,

Dave (QandElf) will be bringing the Westsiders across the Narrows sometime around 0815.  We planned on catching up with them.

Dave, we should probably pick a spot on this side of the bridge for a brief meet up and then head to Graham.

NO problem joining the tour - but you would have to find accommodations in Wenatchee - the hotel where most of us are staying with a special event rate is booked full.  Some people are doing the Saturday only part of the run and heading home from Yakima or Ellensberg.  Hope you can make it - I think you have the MINI with the wild paint job that everyone wants to see.

FOR THE WEST SOUND/KITSAP/NORTH MASON, etc., etc...

Just south of the 'Slow Down' area (well, it's posted 50, but the usual is around 60-65) is a 'Weigh Station' set up which is more often used as a quick pull off.  We need to meet there at 0800 (8:00am for you Civilian types ) so we can make it over the Bridge before the 'festivities' start.  Word on the web is that there may be VIP stuff taking place as early as Saturday, getting geared up for the official opening on Monday.

We will (hopefully) be over the Bridge by 0815-0820.  Due to recent closures and restructuring in the local area, it's been decided that it would be better to go directly to the meeting point, and let the scenic portion start AFTER the Driver's meeting.

Although I haven't heard any requests, I'll be bringing my two spare Radios (sorry, they are 'cheapies' and will need to be recharged at night, I'll have the charger).  My main radio will be set at 7-21 as soon as I leave my house at about 0735ish.

A group of us are meeting at the Silver Lake rest stop just south of Everett - LEAVING THE REST STOP AT 8:00 AM then going down I-405 - It might be a little shorter trip for you if you want to meet us there and motor south with the group.  Exit at the rest stop / truck weigh station after exit 189.

I'm bringing 2 extra radios - really nice Motorola FRS radios - forest green color, never actiually been used .  If anyone wants a radio I'm letting them go for $15 each or $25 the pair.  If you're interested bring 3 AA batteries per radio (they work eaqually well with disposable and NiMH).  (Motorola T6220)  My car's license plate is SWORKS.

If you want a high quality radio that is all business then this is it. The rugged, weather resistant Talkabout T6220 offers advanced features to keep you connected. QuieT6000 technology helps minimize noise from conversations outside your group. Eavesdrop Reducer helps block others from hearing your conversations. NOAA weather channels and alerts help ensure dangerous weather conditions do not catch you off guard.
