I'm currently not a member of any association and i'm considering whether it's worth joining the national SCCA.  So why would someone want to join a membership.

Cost:
$60, national dues (not sure if that is annual or not)
$0 - $25 regional dues (what the heck is this for)

What do I get...
1. SCCA cloth insignia.  (ok,  i guess that will sit in a desk drawer)
2. SCCA car decal. ( I'm sure the police will love seeing that when I'm arguing a speeding ticket )
3. Insurance benefits ( i guess that could be useful if I get hit during an event)
4. discounts on Club merchandise and other products and services.
( this is the thing that got me originally interested in the membership )

Bridgestone has a $100 rebate of select tires www.potenza.com.
So getting the SCCA membership just to get the $100 rebate would be a bit pointless at $40 net.

NWR SCCA tacks on another $20 for regional annual membership.

So $80 total... damn.   Why do I need this?

It depends on what you want to do.  If you intend to attend a lot of SCCA events, members get $5 off their event entry fee.  You also must be a member to compete in the National events; like the Packwood National Tour or ProSolo and the National championships.

You also get a nice glossy magazine, Sports Car.

Since I am one of the very few Puget Sound MINI owners that is serious about autocross, you may get a more varied viewpoint by posting on the forum a www.wwscc.org  or the NW Autox email list.  The registration link is on the front page of the WWSCC website.

Perhaps a little late on the reply, but if you're seeking an autocross-specific group to join, the Bremerton group (bscc.net) is likely the best bang for the buck around here. Included in the $25 annual fee is a voucher for a free autocross event. They also offer $5 discount off the normal pre-registered price of $30. They also offer some novice schools & a few track days.. ..and sometimes special practice days for members. Membership pays for itself upon attending the first free event!

One would have to attend a whole lot of SCCA events to recoup the $80 fee, so I'd say this would be worth it only if you're planning on attending national events.

As far as stuff, you don't get much from the Bremerton group... no fancy patch or discounts or even a sticker, but for $25 you get a good value over all.  It's true that the bscc events often do not go as smoothly as a SCCA day, but sometimes you get lucky & get 5-6 runs!
