    Posted: September/30/07 at 3:22am

Hi everyone.  This thread is a follow-on to Pat's posts, in Earl Grey's thread on October track days, about the HPDE available locally from the PCA and BMWCCA at Seattle, Bremerton, and Spokane.  Want to draw attention to additional track and driving education opportunities thru NASA that might be of interest to some local MINI drivers.

NASA : http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/index.html  is active in California and other parts of the country with a HPDE and Time Trial programs.  NASA has a regular section in each Grassroot Motorsport magazine issue.  I'm a member of NASA, read GRM magazine and have plans to actively participate in their Northern California program in Y2008.  Check out their website for the details.  The Y2008 HPDE dates and rates have not been set yet.

My interest is to drive at Thunderhill and/or Infineon this coming Spring and Summer.  Both of those tracks are a fairly easy commute from Seattle, if you like to drive.  Laguna Seca gets to be a bit stretchy from here and the local weather at the track is chancy.  Any trip to NorCal is a bit spendy when you consider the price of fuel, accommodations and time away from home.  That said, the tracks are absolutely well set up and challanging.

Are others interested in this type of HPDE experience?  If so, post here or PM me and we'll see what can happen.

My best,

John Petrich in Sammamish

John - Rather than PM you, I'm interested.  Maybe we can get a group going!  Anybody else?

Pat,

That's good news.

I hope that others are interested, too.  My thoughts are that we should work to keep this thread alive with updates as the HPDE opportunities get decided on by the various sanctioning groups and with reports from some of us who actually attend them.  Eventually the word will get around and people will want to join up for rewarding group outings.

There are quite a number of local and out of state HPDE options that people are just not sufficiently aware of, or don't understand where they could fit in.

Have a nice rainy Sunday and we'll talk again soon.

Regards,

John Petrich in Sammamish

I've been wanting to do something like this for some time.  I'm in!  Might also think about http://www.hookedondriving.com.  They have quite a number of events in Reno/NorCal...

Ken and the rest,

Glad that some people are interested.  Followed Ken's link and it does sound interesting.  They have events all over the country with a goodly number in the Northern Calif. area.

What remains is to get our cars ready for next year's track season, survive the Winter, and wait for people to publish their schedule of events.  Hope the Winter isn't as bad as last Winter.  I will need new tires (thinking of going larger, like Ken, to 225 section), an alignment, and routine maintanence with a belt replacement.  Will probably think of something else that I "must" spend money on, but nothing in mind at this point.

Anyone else got a list of things to do for next year's track season?

I am definitly interested in going with bigger rims. The 15 inchers were
really loud on track day. I noticed the flex. I'm hoping to find someone with
an S that is upgrading and getting rid of their stock wheels and tires.

Update,

Kim Lew has updated his PNW driving event calendar for Y2008 at this link:  http://home.comcast.net/~mysvtftoy/schedule.htm  Kim is very consciencious about continuously updating the schedule.  His website is a good one to bookmark.  The BMWCCA dates for Seattle and Spokane are close to being finalized and should be confirmed and available around Christmas.

I've  been scanning the NASA and Checkered Flag (CFRA) websites, but their events are listed only thru December and January, at this point in time.

Am trying to stir the pot a bit and I hope that if people get dates early enough they can arrange their calendars and attend some of these events.  I'm targeting some NASA and CFRA events at Thunderhill next year.

Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving,

I may be able to generate a little additional interest.  My new boss' boss is into "driving fast", as he said today, and can do so right quick in his '01 Porsche.  He's never been to an HPDE course.  So if something comes up, I can pass on the details.

Maybe I should check out some of these links mentioned.
