I've got some vacation time to burn, so I'm driving down to the Hooked on MINIs track day at Thunderhill. I'll be heading down on Oct 31, track day is on Nov 1. It's a bit of a drive, but might be my last chance to get out on the track for awhile. They still have slots open ($295), let me know if you're interested in making the trip. http://www.hookedondriving.com/category.cfm?category=1 Tom |

Tom, How did it go for you? Very interested. A posting here would be great. Otherwise send me a PM. Also, check out this PSMINI link for more events like the one you attended: http://www.psmini.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2635&PN= 1 John Petrich in Sammamish |

This was a great event. If you ever get a chance to drive Thunderhill, I'd highly recommend it. It is a very fun, and challenging track with alot of elevation change, and a couple of blind corners which was a very good learning experience. There's alot of open space so if you go off track (which a few cars did) you just get really dirty. The in-car instruction was great, and the format was good too. Classroom instruction, six 25-min lapping sessions, and we did a few laps with the instructors and their cars (those guys are fast). I drove with a few different instructors, and got signed-off to drive solo in the afternoon. They'll have another MINI day in 2008, I'll probably make the trip down again. I'm planning on hitting one of the MINI days next year. Maybe we can caravan down. Show the PSMINI flag.

Tom and the rest, Sounds like you had a good experience and that others are interested in getting down there too. Tom, since you were just there: what are the costs in terms of time and money to drive there, get accommodations, food, etc. I want to be realistic about the hidden costs. How did you breakup the driving time down and back? Where did you stay in the Willows area? Specific information would be very helpful for all of us. John Petrich in Sammamish |

Well, I thought I had some time to put up this information, but it appears that their first of two MINI days is on Feb 21. Here is the basic rundown. I'l post more info later, but I wanted to put something up to see who is interested.
Wednesday Feb 20:
Depart Seatle Area around 8am (earlier may be better)
-3-4 stops for lunch, gas, stretching, and cheezy photos
-Arrive in Willows CA around 7pm depending on traffic. Have dinner.
Thursday Feb 21
-Track day 7-4pm
-Make some headway on the return trip, targeting Ashland Oregon (2 hours or so).
Friday Feb 22
Return drive from Oregon (~6 hours)

Tom,
Have a great time. Should be nice and cool in Willows. Wish I could make it. Thanks for the link and the date in August.
As it turns out, August 21 is a perfect date for me. Do you think that you'll be going back in August? I'd like to go and it would be fun to go with a vetern. Will do some advanced planning here at home, but looks promising.
BTW: Would it be possible to exchange email addresses so we can communicate a little easier about these track events? Mine is: petrich@u.washington.edu

Tofu,
Followed your link and came across the 'Thunderhill Driving Experience' that HOD is offering almost monthly. Sounds very interesting with small run groups and intensive education. Not a MINI event, but sounds like quite a track education event. I'm interested in one of those before August.
What about you?
Regards,
