Okay Tristan and Myself had time this weekend to talk about doing some Motoring this spring and summer. One that He brought up was running up to Packwood, after some looking and talking what we found out and came up with is this.

This year sometime in May or so they will be reopening the Paradise Inn at MT. Rainier after a 2 year restoration. Our thought was to have 2 groups one from the west side leaving Enumclaw and heading up the 410 to Cayuse pass and One group leaving Yakima and hooking up around Cayuse with the west group. Then heading around Rainier to the Newly reopened Paradise Inn on Rainier.
Time we were not sure but Maybe in June or later , We are open for input but we would like to make this happen.
Map for an Idea.

Sounds like a great plan.  I will have to look at the schedule.  Our Summer is already looking insane with camping, trips, drives, etc but I'd love to do a drive like this.

A few of us did a run to Sunrise last year - August 4th - and had a great time.
Picking a date is critical - you want nice weather but not lots of traffic.  We did it on Seafair Sunday and had great weather and a small crowd.  Getting an EARLY start is also important - in the case of Mt. Rainier the destination is as important as the drive and you want time to enjoy the views and a picnic lunch.

Are you thinking a day trip, or an overnight at the Inn?

Yes, it is a great idea!  One day or two.  At the moment, any open days on the MINI calendar work for me.

All I can find out with out calling is they are reopening Paradise Inn at the end of May. Also depends when the State reopens the 410.

To me it looked like June was kind of open month. Plus Packwood has 2 SCCA events I believe auto cross runs that month at the Hampton Mill site.

Tristian and I thought it was a short enough run that if people wanted to just a day trip it would be no problem but could stay the night if the wanted.

Just a note for those that have never been up there. The run from just Packwood to Paradise is like 26 miles but it takes 45 to 60 min in a normal car the road is not very straight.

We could also eat there or do a pot luck picnic we are open for Ideas and interest.

Lets put this whole things in a different picture. Tristan and Myself will be doing this run in 2008. We would like to see the club work it in to their agenda. But we understand if it does not work in to the current list of events for the club.

I'm dreaming of a drive to Paradise Inn!  Wondering if we should invite phydeaux to see how long he can make this trip.

Also, didn't find out whether they spiffed up the rooms at this joint.  Some folks had some harsh words.  But then again, I've syaed in places in Jersey that had a head at the end of the hall and a shower outside.

Think anyone would like the autocross in Packwood

Great idea!  I'm really looking forward to seeing the remodelled Inn - they've needed to do that for YEARS.  Pick a date so I can get it on the calendar.

The reduced number of side roads in the area does put a limit on how long one can extend a drive.  :)

For the west side folks, would this be an early morning drive, meet the folks from the east side, have lunch and then head back in late afternoon....................

I see that Winged Victory is at the end of the month so if we put this at the beginning I would think that we would be okay?
Can anyone tell John and I why it wouldn't work the 1sdt weekend in June?
Thanks

Does this mean we can expect a wonderful course of twisty roads?

I'd be interested in this.  Let's definitely get it on the calendar!

Okay lets put some links up so you can get an Idea.
Here is what we are talking about for the first part with 2 groups one from the west and one from the east meeting at the middle(Cayuse Pass/ Chinnok Pass or there about)
http://www.experiencewa.com/byways/Byway.aspx?bwid=5
http://www.chinookscenicbyway.com
Could meet somewhere around here

Then on around to Paradise, now the Westsiders may chose to do this.
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/destinations/Mount_Rainier_National_Park/Around_Mount_Rainier.html

I believe The Eastsiders will come back down 12 in to Yakima.

As you can see there a lot of turns and points of interest along with photo ops for your Mini.

Any takers?

The June 7th date sounds great to us.  I think we should stay away from any Mother's/Father's day dates for an event.  It would also give people a few weeks between the drive and the Winged Victory rally on the 29th to schedule their other activities.
