RADAR DETECTOR Hey!!  I resemble that remark! Wink

As for registration, we are good to go. We have not received confirmation but have been billed on Paypal. We have opted out of the banquet. The food was not worth $38 and we had a hard time getting into the Elvis act due to the poor sound system. The company of the PSMINI members is always enjoyable and we will get that fix throughout the trip.

We have our extra tire and spare tire rack along with the fixaflat spray. We do not plan on spending the major part of the day at the MINI dealership or listening to a tow truck driver that has spent too much time alone.

Is there a PSMINI get together planned or do we want to plan one?

I will sign onto the Tues departure thread to coordinate details.

Are you joining us on Tuesday?

Dunno... need to look at schedule...

Is anyone planning a FUN route, or is it gonna be all straight-lines and interstates?

We get cranky--okay, cranky-er--after a lot of boring straight stuff Big%20smile

John,

It is an awfully long drive and doing it in two days on the long, straight, but boring interstates is really the fastest.  If you want to do a much more "fun" route you are going to have to take a lot more time.

I still haven't bought her ticket. Farecast keeps sending me a mail saying "Wait," fares expected to drop. Due to kid commitments (those again!) she will likely be arriving at 5-6 p.m. I plan to pick her up and then join the line for the strip cruise. You're totally off the hook.

You guys are too funny!  Bruce is right though, the delay should only be worth about a block.  I had to add some excitement last year by turning into the Ballys drive and then ducking around and coming right back out - didn't miss much by doing so.  The Wilds and MINICharley tried dropping one of their passengers and then trying to see how long it took him to catch up on foot!

We are all registered and will be trying to do as many of the drives as we can.  We are registered for the banquet and will hang with PSMINI folks that are going.  I figure part of the cost is helping keeping the event going since the registration per car is not much and they did handle the buffet line really well last year.  We're not going to do the breakfast though - that was not worth it.  No place to sit.  No gathering of people.  Windy & cold up on the roof of the garage.  Food didn't stay hot enough.  What we'd rather do is maybe meet up with a group of PSMINI people and go to breakfast somewhere.  What do you think?

Also, Martin - any chance your sister is still managing the Irish Pub and interested in having us visit?  We had a blast at the PSMINI night there on Thursday night.  I definitely think we should do a PSMINI night again.

One other thing - last year on the way down, I tried to take us to lunch in Pendleton at a place that had gone out of business (who knew?), but I'm told if we had turned right instead of left at that awful freeway exit, we could have gone to Roosters - one of the best chicken fried steak places, I'm told.  I've not been there, but like I said, I've been told.  Also has salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta,.....

Linda. I'll do some checking with my sister. These wonderful economic times have resulted in Mariott getting rid of the Manager roll at the pub so she was reassigned to being in charge of beverage operations for the hotel and not in charge of the pub any longer (much to the dismay of the regular clientel). I see what she can do though.

How do I get the $79/night discount at the Palace?  I went online and there asking $89/night for Wednesday and Thursday, and then it goes up to $109/Friday and $119/Saturday.

Amman,

I just got off the phone with "Alex" at the Palace Station and Vegas.  He said you could either call Palace Station at 1-800-634-3101 and ask for the "Sin City Mini Club rates" to get the discount on your room.  You can also go online and use the code PCIAMV9 in the "SPECIAL OFFER/GROUP CODE" box to get the discount.  I tried it and it worked...

Rooms are $79 in the Courtyard and $99 $119 in the Tower (price is before the 9% taxes and $9.95 hotel amenity fee/per day).  I was told that reservations must be made by Jan. 25th to get the discount (i.e.  no less than 60 days before check-in).  As of today, there is still room availability in both the Courtyard and Tower.  My total cost was $290.87 for the 3 nights (taxes and hotel amenity).

Hope the info helps...  Looking forward to another MINI in our convoy to Las Vegas.  WooHoo
Cheers,
Brenda

This is WAY TOO HARD! LOL

I'm on the phone with Carla in reservations right now and she's giving me $79 Courtyard and $119 Tower, which is what I had before.

Am changing to Courtyard.

Brenda,

I think you're mistaken on the $99 Tower rate.  The AMVIV website advises it is $79 for courtyard and $119 for Tower.  As long as you make your reservations at least 60 days out.  After Jan 25th these rates go up to $99 for the courtyard and $139 for the Tower.  I called Palace Station and they confirmed these rates.

Gina ~

You're right... I just went online and tried booking with the special code: PCIAMV9 and the price is $119 for the Tower.  At least the price for the Courtyard was quoted the same.  Geez, $99 is what Alex at the Palace Station told me for the Tower.  Go figure...

For the people who are flying, SWA has a three day sale on flights:

http://southwest.com/landing/seattle50off.html?ref=fo1_hp_090120?src=TRAVELZOO

Looks like you can get a round trip ticket for about $150 + taxes...

EDIT: that is for some pretty terrible return times on Sunday... and none of the Sunday non-stop flights are available, but still worth a look.

Great news!  I just received an email last night from Sin City MINI Club President.  Hotel costs will remain the same until mid February:

Subject: [AMVIV] Palace Station is NOT raising the rate next week!
Date: Thursday, January 22, 2009 10:21:54 PM

It's true. With the economy in the state it's in, and everyone worried
about their wallets, we have convinced Palace Station to keep the
group rate at $79 per night and $119 per night for the Courtyard and
Tower rooms respectively, until the rate ends in mid-February! We're
looking out for you!

Registered cars are now up to 139, and we have 12 vendors who have put
their money down for space at the Boot N Bonnet show so far, so it's
looking to be a bigger and better event than ever.

Phil Wicks has listened to the masses and changed his format to run
timed SOLO 1 autocross racing rather than wheel-to-wheel in
conjunction with his famous driving academy out at the Spring Mountain
Motorsports Ranch, which is a fantastic track.  Go to
www.minidriving.com for all the details.

The t-shirt, hat and grille badge designs have been finalized and the
winner of the contest this year was Craig B (you may know him better
as COOPERation on the forums) who, in a close vote, beat out several
other amazing and artistic entries.
I'm putting the images on the website in the next day or so, so you
can see how cool the shirts you're rushing to buy will be.

I guess that's all for now,
see you in March.

I was thinking about it at one point Brenda but then chose to take Anne's Clubman down instead. I was tempted to take my car as I would love to drive it on the track down there, but for the money I'm not sure how much actual track time I will get. I've heard some complaints in the past about limited track time. I'm saving my money for more track time up here.

Earlier this week there was an article in USA Today about a KOA campground at Circus-Circus that has AIRSTREAM TRAILERS that sleep 4 (queen and two twins) and has a kitchen for $45/night...

https://koa.com/where/nv/28138/

We just moved from Palace Station to a VERY COOL AIRSTREAM!

I called and they have four left for Wednesday through either Sunday or Monday.  Our reservation is through Monday just in case we decide to stay over an extra night.

Anyone else interested?
