The Dam Stampede to Omak.
Okay this will be an evolving thread as I get things, times, and stops firmed up. Here is the basic overview. Tips for Touring This is a great article for the newer people to motoring, I am not sure when Don New posted it but it is worth reading.http://www.psmini.org/forum/uploads/kulmini/2007-07-12_184010_Tips_on_Touring.pdf Meeting point for the 2 groups from the west side; Broadway Flying J Plaza 2300 South Canyon Road Ellensburg, WA 98926 http://www.activediner.com/Broadway-Flying-J-Travel-Plaza/restaurant/Ellensburg/WA/US/map/674061 July 17th 1:00-2:00pm Wanapum Dam tour http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanapum_Dam 2:45-3:30pm Safeway and Gas stop in Ephrata Wa. 4:30-5:00pm Dry Falls http://www.tourgrantcounty.com/index.php?page_id=230 6:00-Arrive at Grand Coulee Dam for FOOD and or hotel/motel check in. 6:00-11:00 Grand Coulee Visitor Center(The Incline elevator to power house 3 is down tours unlikely ) 10:00 Grand Coulee Laser Light Show.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Coulee_Dam July 18th You are now on the Colville Reservation for this part of the run. This will enclude a interior an exterior tour of multi levels of the dam and the fish ladder. The only place that they will not enter is the main control room. This lock down if I understand right was put into place after 911. A tour size is limited to 33 people if we go over this it is not a problem they will just have to do 2 tours. What is important here is 2 weeks before the tour the PUD has to have the names of all members that will be on the tour. This will be verified at the time of the tour with picture ID. Candus has asked about kids and we will have an answer for those that are bring Jr. family members that may not have picture ID that want to go on he tour. So even if you are not sure your going to make it get your name on the list. We can not add people to the list after we hit that 2 week window So I know there will be a lot going on before the 4th but the 3rd of July will be the last day you can get on the list to tour Wanapum. I will be putting a simple fill in the blank form that you can email me so I can get a main list together for the PUD. In closing the dates and times for the dam tour will not be changing some of the other events my be modified as things grow closer. Thank You , This is going to be a fun run and we are looking forward to seeing you all. John & Candus Edited by johnf36 - July/14/09 at 5:35am |

This is GREAT, John! Thanks to you and Candace for setting everything up...
Now that the run's planned, you're probably working on lodging... PDXMINI made a four-day Coulee Dam run last year (maybe they drove slowly?) that used this place: Coulee House Inn & Suites, a.k.a. Coulee House Motel $66-130 (these were their negotiated rates for 4th of July weekend--we may do even better--rack rates on website are $99-169) www.couleehouse.com 800-717-7767 or 509-633-1101 I missed the run, so have no idea of how this place is/was, just know it was recommended. New member 'Old Rick' is also a PDXMINI member, so he may've gone on the run and have some thoughts on the place. According to the web site it's all non-smoking, so that's a big plus right off the bat. My guess is that the motel part has the $66 rooms Hope this helps, Edited by GoKart - March/16/09 at 10:22pm |

John,
Please include kulmini (Don only) for the Wanapum Dam visit, I will probably ride with GoKart and Chili-S over the southern route and then depart after the dam visit. Thanks! Edited by kulmini - March/17/09 at 3:02am |

Wow this looks great. We did the hard hat tour of the Hoover Dam down in Vegas. It was a blast. I had to do an OJ Simpson run through the place after parking the car. It was after 911 so I was trying not to attract too much attention and still make the tour. I just made the elevator as the door closed. Thanks for arranging this. Now when do we start our sun dance and appropriate sacrifices to the sun gods for good weather? Karin |

Hey I'm down for both days, Snoqualmie will be my route with KoolBlu and I'll either have myself and my hubby or all of us (our 2 kids) So you can put me down for 4 if you like, but it might end up to be 3 or 2... Thanks!

We will make this a 2 day as well. I have to dig back through the threads, but I think Belinda mentioned a hotel close to Coulee that allowed you to walk over to the light show? Maybe I didn't read it right - I'll have to check.

John & Candace Have you made arrangements with some place for lodging? I called The Coulee House and they don't have any record of us. They would welcome us because at this point they don't have very many bookings for the 17th of July.
A single queen is $79 plus tax and a double queen is $99 plus tax.
For those that have been marked as yes for lodging, where are you staying??

We have not done anything yet Karin, but that is not a bad price for up there. I was kind of waiting to see what everyone wanted to do. We are flexable here.

I'm staying at the Coulee House.
One queen $89/night AAA rate. The $79/$99 are last year's rates according to Howard. He also said they're having problems with web site and are unable to update it. Wouldn't honor the $79 web price, though if we promised them 10 rooms or so I'm thinking we could get it back down. Edited by GoKart - April/07/09 at 5:08am |

Well, Bob and I have to work on Friday, so we were thinking that we could meet up with everyone at Coulee Dam. It says you will be at the visitor center from 6 to 11pm. We would like to be there to see the laser show. This is our plan so far. Hoping we can make it!

I spoke to the gentlemen yesterday and he gave me the price of $79 for one queen bed (group rate). We just need to let them know that we want a block of rooms and he can set it up.
They have 60+ rooms and have plenty of room for the 17th of July. He told me that the 17th would be a good date which gave me the impression that we would be THE major occupants for the night.
I will call them back if we want to confirm a group rate.
Thoughts?

Hi John
We can lead the north group. However here is my disclaimer:
I don't have a great track record with the bubble gum machines driven by the state's "finest" so the lead will be within the speed limit.
If that is too slow for the group, we will defer to someone else and meet you on the eastside of the mountains.
Thoughts??

So it would Karin
I kind of figured we might be safe with the 17th. It sound like now would be a good time to see how many people need rooms and try and lock the rate. Right up front I am not real good at handling hotels and as it sounds you all have kind of been working with the hotel on lodging. So do you guys want to handle that part for me. I can edit the post at the top to reflect the lodging John |
