    Posted: July/01/09 at 12:57pm
The "Mystery Event" is revealed...

When:  August 2nd   11:00 am - ??

Where:  Sullivan Park at Silver Lake (Everett)   (Map and driving directions)

What:  Day of fun for the whole family.  Picnic, swim beach, games, and more!

Who:

Roy / Beth (Escape Pod / COOPR) : 2 adults   : Side dishes, dessert
Jack / Linda (Woodstock / Cinimin) : 2 adults (looking likely!)  : Bringing BBQ
Cosmic Traveler:  1 or 2 adults, 2 kids
Wild Family:  2 adults, 1 kid : Baked beans
Sanaye (Cheetah) : 1 adult (?)
Soggy-1 (Stephen and  Lee)
Pixel (how many?)
NAVIGTR (David & Kelly) : 2 adults
VALVASHON ( Stacie, Bruce & Elliott )  : 2 adults, 1 kid, possibly guests (bringing fruit-berry-dessert thing)
MINICHARLEY (Dean & Belinda) (tentative) : 2 adults, 2 kids.
4LFCLVER (Karen & Karin) : 2 adults.  cabbage salad
Silver_Surfer : 2 adults: pancit
MINIHAWG (Bill) : 1 adult (?)
BBQSEAN : 2 adults, 2 kids

Beach

Field

Jack and Linda scoped out this awesome venue last year, and jumped on the schedule way back in January to secure us a reservation.  Their schedules are looking iffy at the moment, but they're letting us step in at the last minute to take all the credit ...  LOL
We have a private sheltered picnic area with a huge bbq grill, electricity and a prep sink.  We have  a big grassy area to park the MINIs on, with room to spare for whatever goofy games we come up with.  There's easy access to the swimming beach, there are paddle boats and kayaks for rent, and there's great play equipment for the kids.
More info about the park and Camp Patterson can be found at: http://www.everettwa.org/default.aspx?ID=563

The picnic area is ours until 6:00, so we're thinking we can feast on bbq (is it too soon for another pot luck?)  get to know eachother, and hopefully bask in the sunshine!

A couple of caveats, due to the rules of our host, the Everett Parks Department.  Because it's a public swimming beach, I'm afraid pets must sit this event out.  Also, we'll need to stick to non-alcoholic beverages.  (Who needs beer when you have MINIs?)

Hope you'll be joining us!  More details to come.    (If you've got a badminton or croquet set, or a radio controlled MINI,  or BIG coolers we'd love to hear from you.....)

Ok, it's time to get this ball rolling and get an approximate headcount!
If you're planning to come, please let us know how many adults and/or kids in your group, and whether you can bring food for a pot luck.  Guess if there are only 5 of us we can afford to cater it!  Cry

I believe that sounds like a fun event that we would like to attend!  Count Soggy-1 in for 2 adults.

This is a great park!  We did some Newfoundland water trials there years ago.  If I remember right, nice swimming area and lots of sun and shade.  Have fun and take lots of pictures for us, though, 'cause I'm not brave enough for Seattle traffic on Seafair Sunday.

Thanks, Kristen.  Your post makes a good segway into something else I've been planning.  I know some good back roads on the eastside and was thinking about organizing a rallye from Auburn up to the picnic in Everett.  It should help make everyone's trip more fun and avoid any freeway traffic.

If people are interested in a Sunday morning rallye before the picnic, let me know and I will finalize the details.  The rough plan would be to start in Auburn around 9:00 and finish at Silver Lake around lunchtime.

I started a separate thread about a Rally up to Silver Lake.  You can find the discussion here: http://www.psmini.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5717

In summary, I'm proposing a MINI Rallye through the Cascade foothills starting in Auburn and ending in Everett.  I've been scouting out backroads since last summer, but the WA DOT closed a couple of the roads I had planned to use last year. Unhappy  Anyway, the roads are open again but this summer's event calendar is pretty full.  So what I'd like to combine the rally with the Silver Lake picnic.  Two events for the price of one! LOL

The rally would be a cross between a scavenger hunt and a gimmick rally, similar to Winged Victory or the Tulip Rallye.  The route will be divided into multiple legs with a short list of specific objects to look for along the route.  However, instead of answering questions, you only have to list the objects you saw in the order they appear on the route.  Points would be awarded for each object found and listed in the correct order.

The route is approximately 85 miles and will take about 3.5 hours to finish.  A couple of pit stops are planned along the route to stretch your legs.  At the end of the rally you can turn in your route instructions and answers and then enjoy the picnic at Silver Lake.  Winners will be announced at the picnic after everyone clocks in.

The driving directions are now complete and the objects/clues selected.  I just need to do some document preparation and we should be good to go.  My wife (Beth) will be testing the drive for us next weekend.

Well Shoot!  We'll miss you and your family Steve.
Have fun camping!

Ok everyone,  if we're going to eat, we need to get the pot luck going.  Drool
Not that I'm opposed to ending up with 5 pans of brownies, but maybe a bit of variety would be good.  Let me know what you'd like to bring, and we'll see if we can balance things out.

We'll provide a main dish or two (probably bbq ribs and chicken wings or something along those lines).  Or, if anyone else is interested in manning the (charcoal) bbq, we'd provide the burgers & dogs to be grilled.

Please BYOB (but no beer - park rules....)

We'll be there with at least 2 adults and 1 kid.  We might have extra family with us but will update our count as it develops.  We'll plan to bring a fruity-berry-desserty thing.

Thanks Valvashon, the more the merrier!
An approximate head count will help us all with food planning, but I don't think I've ever been to a pot luck that didn't have 5 times as much food as anyone could eat!  LOL

We'll look forward to seeing you, as well as anyone else willing to spend the day with a bunch of crazy MINI owners!

Thanks Karin!  We'll look forward to seeing you!

For those debating about what to bring, we'll have coolers and lots of ice on hand, and we're planning to bring some deep disposable foil pans that we can fill with ice and nest serving dishes in for anything you'd like to keep cool.
We'll also have warming pans and fuel for hot foods.

Extra coolers would definitely be welcome!

We'll have a big case of water as well.
