It's funny that this should come up now as GIR and I were just talking about him replacing his on Friday. I was on the way home today and noticed that what I thought was a slipping belt is actually my clutch. It spelled pretty bad when I got home.
What are the available options for aftermarket clutches out there? I've heard of offerings from Cravenspeed. Anything else? I'd really like it if there were sponsors that offered discounts for PSMINI members as well. Thanks, James |

Great, I was on my phone so it is kind of hard. You might also check Way Motor Works sometimes they have deals to.

I'm in the process of updating our sponsor info. The list of sponsors is on our home page (www.psmini.org) - see the banners for sponsors.
Because sponsor discounts are for paid club members, you'll see the details under the PSMINI Information for Paid Members section of the forum, under Member-Only Discounts.

That's the link I was looking for. Thanks. Looks like Mini-Madness has a clutch and flywheel package. I'll give them a call and see what they can put together. Thanks, James |

Its a new clutch that he has coming in. It's like most other clutch packages with a lightweight flywheel, but this company comes with an upgraded throwout bearing whereas all other companies use an off the shelf stock bearing.

Here's the new clutch with both race and street disks shown. Also notice the upgraded throwout bearing rather than a stock one.

I'm up working :(
I'm waiting for Parker from Broadstroke to get back and give me a quote. He's out of town til the 9th. He's also 5 mins from my place, so he's nice and close. Mini Mania is a 4 hour drive, plus gas, plus hotel and food while I'm down there, so it's going to be more by quite a bit..... |

DOH. Bit of bad news on my clutch so far. Apparently 3 of the 6 hols in
the flywheel were drilled, but not tapped for the screws. The FW had to
come back out and they had to tap the holes. Rest assured I'll be taking
this up with George at Mini-Madness and Competition Clutch....

So I picked the car up this evening. Here are some first impressions:
Before even getting in the car, I picked up the old OEM flywheel. The difference is incredible. The OEM one is soooo much heavier. It literally was a two hand lift to pick it up and get it boxed up again. I took it home to take some photos later. The clutch engagement is a big difference. The clutch travel feels shorter and more "grabby" for lack of better words. It will take some time to get used to. I actually stalled it in his lot . The car revs much more freely. I am babying the clutch for the first 500 miles, so no hard acceleration to report on for now. That's all for now. I've only had the car back for 30 minutes now and had to get my son to karate. I'll have more impressions later. If anyone would like to meet up so you can feel the clutch engagement, just let me know. -James |

Did the pedal ever break in? What's your impression of the clutch now? I was looking at the same kit... Thanks, Paul

What do you mean by pedal break in? The pedal travel and engagement does not change over time. I just got used to it....
Clutch is still awesome. Lighter FW means quicker revs and a little more revs on take off. James |
