Just wanted to say Hi! Picking up a VERY used 05 for my wife, to replace her 06 trailblazer ss. Gas is a killer, kids are driving now, no need for the 12mpg bloated corvette. ;)
If you can believe it....the one i'm getting has 188k miles! It looks and drives like 40k miles though. I know hard to believe but it's true. It'll be here in a few weeks and i'll put up some pics.

Welcome to the club!
Wow, 188,000 miles! That gives us all great hope that our cars will last us a long time. Although they do have their quirks and a few weak spots here and there, they are well built and relatively easy to service. (The engine bay is extremely compact, but it is well thought out and there isn't anything that can't be repaired or replaced.) The chassis is probably one of the stiffest and sturdiest on the road today and is sure to last, with the appropriate maintenance. We are all looking forward to pictures and the chance to meet you at one of our various events! |

Thanks for the quick welcome. :)
I have hope that this car will keep going, but am fully prepared to drop in a used engine or trans or whatever may be needed in the future. Those miles would scare away 90 percent of buyers, but i'm not afraid of it. Been repairing cars for as long as I can remember, and personally would much rather get a super good price and rebuild components as needed vs. paying top dollar for a low mile one. Just the way I am. Look forward to meeting some of you sometime although it IS my wife's car. That won't stop me from doing a few small mods to it though. ;) For the record my dd is an 01 saab 9-5 aero, with 168k miles.

Welcome to the club! Wow, 188k miles is good to hear! I'm only at 65k, but I'd be thrilled if my MINI reaches 200k without any major repairs. What color is your MINI? I will have to look for you on the road. Occasionally I'm in the Marysville area, so maybe I will see you on the road if I know what color to look for. Keep your calendar free for the Tulip Rally which is somewhat near your area. Each year it is a blast and is highly attended by MINI owners. This year the 30th Annual La Conner Tulip Rallye is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2011. I'm glad you found us and look forward to meeting you in the near future... Cheers, Brenda

You probably won't have the car yet, but I'm planning to help a fellow club member with a supercharger pulley mod next Wednesday (time TBD). You can feel free to stop by if you want to shoot the breeze or whatever. (I'm in North Bothell, by the way.)

Welcome to the forum. I'm just up the road from you in Lake Stevens. If you have any questions on how to fix anything or how these little cars tick you will have no problem getting answers from this group. We have a lot of members that do their own work on their cars and have gotten to know them intimately. |

Welcome. You may be in for a surprise, "my MINI" is definitely "our MINI", my husband didn't even want to do a test drive as he said it would be my car, I insisted and that was all it took, he loves the car as much as I do, we have so much fun with Mini and this club. |

Welcome! I bought my '05 from an avid car tinkerer who actually sold it to me in '06 because he wanted a car that needed working on. Who knows, maybe he's back in a MINI now that the earlier cars are starting to get some real miles on them. I can't imagine trading my MINI in for anything else - I certainly hope to still have mine 100K+ miles from now.
A few weeks? Where's it coming from?

Wow thanks for the overwhelming responses! Way more than I expected in a regional forum.
A little background on me and the car. I have access to a dealer only auction, and that's where I found the car. Car's from Lake Pleasant, NY, and is being delivered via carrier. I picked it up for 5800 plus shipping which is right around 1000. I watched an 02, non-s, 130k miles go today for 5300 so IMO I did good. Clean title, one owner traded in at a mercedes dealer for a new benz of some kind. As I think I stated before, i'm not afraid of putting in a used engine, tranny or whatever this car may need in the future *fingers crossed* it won't ever need those, but I am prepared. Suspension, bearings etc etc I will be replacing myself again if needed. I have a small shop with a press and pretty much any tool I need to do it, so in good shape there. Wife really REALLY wanted a mazda 3. I was not so thrilled on that idea. Yeah easier to work on, pretty reliable but what a boring car. And I do once in a while have to drive her car so.....Sunday I strategically went to "test drive" some cars, with no intentions of buying. It was just so she could make a decision on exactly what i'd be seaching for. Anyways, first stop, 07 mazda 3, plain jane. Took it for a drive, ok, not bad, kinda plain. HEHEHEHE My 2nd, stop was a mini at magic toyota in lynnwood. :) she fell in love upon 1st drive. 2nd stop was Mini dealer on lake city way. Extremely good sales atmosphere, copy of my drivers licence and insurance card and they were like here ya go, take your time! Wow. So got a good feel for them, took one and wound it up some, pretty snappy for a 1.6L that's for sure. Anyways that's how I ended up here, and will be here for at least a few years i'm sure. To whoever offered assistance on a supercharger pulley upgrade, thank you very much but I won't be ready in time. After the car arrives i'll be going through it top to bottom and replacing anything that needs it. Then i'll source a pulley and then if you have the time i'd gladly pay someone who's done it before to do it on mine. :) Saves me from having to buy a tool i'd use once, plus some experience always helps avoiding pitfalls of first time pulley swap. Also I have a Genisys OTC with European software...IIRC it's current to 05 so, if any of you need to get into your modules to pull codes, reset codes, monitor data stream pm me. Here's a few crap auction pics..... Enjoy. |

Heated seats were the #1 must have for us, well after a S that is. :)
We were comparing her trailblazer to the mini, kinda funny but can kinda see the similarities.... Both are the upper level of the models, both have a hatch, both are blue, both make big power for their class, both have heated seats, one is a SS, one is 1/2 the size and is an S, on and on and on. Nice looking MINI. 2005 is a good year. And great price. There are quite a few non-running wrecked MINIs selling for close to that. There aren't many MINIs that have reached that many miles. Will be interesting to see what amount of work it needs. These cars have really solid engines, and the hoses are probably in good shape because it is not an old car, so probably it will need suspension work more than anything else. It was me who offered pulley assistance. Whenever you're ready, just stick your hand up and any one of us grease monkeys would be happy to help out. There is a guy on NorthAmericanMotoring.com who apparently works in a dealership and very happily gives vehicle optioning details to whoever asks for them. Just post your last digits and a contact email address and before you know it, he'll reply back with a PDF file showing your details. Firehawk - If you haven't figured it out already, you are going to fit right in with the MINI crowd here - hopefully your wife will be joining in the fun and participating in our events. Eve if you don't have your MINI yet, slap a couple masking tape bonnet stripes on the Blue Blazer, call it a MINI, and join us for Coffee at Southcenter on Saturday...

LOL Thanks Jack! Unfortunately TBSS is sitting at the south seattle auto auction waiting for next wednesdays run. I put the wife in a piece of crap Saturn LS1 ROTFL. She hates it. Keeps trying to sneak my saab keys but I hide them well.
She's spoiled and IMO the saturn is a nice wakeup to make her appreciate the nice cars she always has. |

It does happen -
Back when we were a one MINI family, CINIMIN was in the shop - and we had a Fjord Taurius or something for a loaner car - and a coffee meet scheduled for Saturday Morning at Starbucks in Mill Creek - two blue masking tape bonnet stripes and a big M&M (candy) magnet on the hood with masking tape wings and we were in... We took the loaner back to NW MINI that way and got a few smiles. |

Welcome, you have found a new home. Sounds like "the better half" if going to have a great time playing with the other kids! Story to share:
I had been driving a 92 Lincoln Town Car with 72K miles for 6 years. Loved driving the mobile home and everyone else loved to RIDE with me. It was my father's, he was down sizing and offered the car to me. No cost except to have it shipped from Atlanta. His name is "Big Abe Lincoln". Last Jan 2010, he started requiring much petting and pampering. Could not open the hood for less than $400. No fun and I did not want to put any additional funds into him. Got on the internet and looked at every kind of car imaginable. Yuk, Yuk and Yuk. Have never seen so many ugly cars in my life! I knew 6 years ago what I really wanted to be driving! On March 20, 2010 I drove into Seattle Mini, parked Big Abe, walked up and announced I was here to purchase my new car. A new life began! Tell your wife that the days of driving around with a *!@& eating grin on her face are here to stay!!! See ya soon.. |

First of all, welcome to the club. I heartily endorse your buying out of state idea- I got mine from Hawaii and my wife got hers in California. The Hawaii one was shipped (literally) over here and we flew down to California and drove hers back. Saved a ton of money (some of it was even on our car insurance!). Do not be scared of a high mileage MINI. There's a guy in Wisconsin that has 400k plus on his. He replaced the engine after a botched valve job, but other than that he hasn't done much to it.
Second, I found this on Craigslist tonight: Not sure why, but I still troll Craigslist looking at used MINI's. The price listed said 'red flag' so I clicked on it and recognized the picture from this post. I sure hope nobody gave your MINI away... Bruce |

...Now mom may drive to the grocery store, But that's not what this car is really for...
