I'm gonna do this next year.  Too many things on the "to do" list to make it this weekend.

Cheers and have fun!

Just for clarity...when are we meeting up at the Smokey Point rest stop?
Look forward to meeting you all then.

Since you are a new member, here's how these things usually work.  We have a meetup time for this event at the rest area (northbound) at 8:00am and a departure time from the rest area at 8:30am.  This means that if you get to the rest area at 7:50am you'll be waiting for maybe ten minutes before anybody else shows up; if you get there at 8:00 am you'll be among the first ones there and will get about a half hour to socialize with the rest of us before we leave and if you get there at 8:25am (like a certain two-MINI couple I know) you'll have time enough to hit the loo before getting back in your car to leave with the group.  In other words, if you're not there exactly at 8:00am you'll be fine.  Just don't show up at 8:35am.

We are pretty good about leaving at the time we specify; occasionally we leave a few minutes late to allow for latecomers but we don't wait for them (I'm looking at you, AMVIV 6 convoy!).  The organizers of any event build in a little extra travel time to allow for flexibility in departure times.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Bruce & Stacie

Good post Bruce - Now - some things to bring:

A clipboard to keept the instructions on and to allow the navigator to write the answers to the questions.

Good writing inpliments - several pencils or a good pen or marker.

A Navigator to read the instructions to the driver and to write the answers with a good writing impliment  on the instruction sheets cliped to the clipboard.

Most people bring snacks for during the rally and a lunch or more snacks to have at the end of the rally while everyone is waiting for the scores to be tallied.  There is always at least one Rest Stop built into the rally instructions.

For our events the club uses FRS radios tuned to channel 7-21.  In the spirit of friendly compitetion it is requested that the radios NOT be used to communicate information about the clues or the answers to the trivia questions.  It is also considered very poor form (cheating) to use cell phones to get answers to the trivia questions.  You are competing against only the other MINIs in the rally.  Be fair to your fellow MINIites.

Bruce ans Stacy will be leading the convoy from Smokey Point th the prestaging area on the back side of the Cascade Mall.  They will then lead the Grand MINI Entrance to the Main Rally registration area where everyone will pick up their rally packets or take care of registering if not pre-registered.  Instructions will be gone over at the Drivers Meeting and the route instructions will be given to you as you leave.  Set your trip odometer to zero at the departure point and record the departure time.  One hint - the first question could very well be something very close to the departure point - read the first few instructions very carefully as you leave the area.

You have LOTS OF TIME to complete the route.  You never have to drive faster than the posted speed limits to complete the rally in time no matter how lost you get .  This is not a speed event but rather an opportunity to enjoy a nice drive thru some beautiful country.  Be extremly cautious of bicycles and inattentive pedestrians, especially near the tulip fields.

PLEASE Don't forget to bring a canned food donation for the local food bank. Dropoff at the Rally Registration tables at Cascade Mall...

If necessary, remind your self frequently that you are doing this to have fun.

You're staying right across the freeway from the mall (exit 230) so you're right near the final meet-up place.  The rest stop is just north of exit 206. If you're earlybirds you should come down and join the caravan anyway! Smile

This will be my first rally too and I'm getting excited, although if this weather continues I'm going to need new wiperblades to even have a chance it seeing anything along the route! Right now it's more like tulip fields by van Gogh.

According to the Maps of Google, the rest stop is just north of exit 206.  So you'll have to come south on
I-5 from the hotel and do a fairly obvious u-turn at exit 206.

To go south on I-5 from the hotel you have to go north on Nevitt road a bit until you get to highway 20, take a left and then another left right away on the on ramp.  To go to the mall from the hotel if you change your mind, go up Nevitt, take a right on highway 20 to Burlington Blvd and then a right to Cascade Mall Drive.

I don't see it mentioned here but the group usually meets on the Truck side of the rest area to allow for more parking.

Plus one more 'day of' mini to the Rally.  I always thought of spontaneous as a verb and not an adjective, which explains volumes....  LOL  Anyone meeting at Southcenter or Northgate on the way to Smokey Point?

Cheers.

Alice is definately an unhappy camper.  She has put on some dusty rain spots, and decided to leak a little oil from both her pan gasket and crank position sensor in protest.

It's OK, your brakes would never survive the long drive... (see how I did that, no comment on the other post... I saved it for here).

Another Tulip Rally HEADS-UP:

In addition to a few hundred cars going to the Tulip Rally, and a few Thousand going to the Tulip Festival, an additonal attraction is going to create some traffic problems around Quil Ceda Village - the BIG shopping complex on the Tulalip Reservation next to I5:  Cabella's opened on Thursday and 3,000 people showed up - they expect a biggercrowd on Saturday - but probably later than we will be going by in the morning.   Hopefully they will all leave before we head home - bu expect a slow drive thru Everett...

If you havn't done it already, take a minute and put a few cans for the food donation in your car tonight so you dont forget on Saturday...

I'd recommend hopping over to Highway 9 anywhere north of Smokey Point on your way home in the afternoon. With the good weather forecasted you will save a ton of time and your day won't be ruined by sitting in traffic jam from Smokey point to Seattle. If you really want a nice drive on the way home head east through Mount Vernon or Sedro-Woolley to Big Lake and take Highway 9 south from there. It's a beautiful twisty drive from there to Arlington then a straight shot the rest of the way down hwy9 to 405/Woodinville/Bothell area.

The other great way home is going the back way from Laconner to Stanwood through Conway  Very pretty country.  Make sure you behave the speed limit however.
