Topic: Advice - 2 to 3 weeks til I pickup my Mini Posted: January/07/08 at 5:14am |
Hi everyone,
It's getting very close til I pick up my MCS at NW Mini. I'll have it by the end of the month. I'm talking to the dealer about accessories. I was thinking about getting splash guards, a clearbra, the no holes drilled plate, floor mats. Here's the quotes I got (which include being a PSMINI member): Stoneguard: 799 = 719.10 Mudflaps: 299 = 269.10 Rubber mats: 85 = 76.50 No Holes: 90 = 81.00 Seems to me that the no holes plate, clearbra and the mudflaps are really expensive Anyone have any thoughts or experience getting these installed at another shop? I semi mechanically inclined but i'm paranoid I will not have the right tool for the job and this is my new baby and would hate to see it go scarred by my handsThanks! Mud flap parts are around $55 for all 4. Installation takes an hour plus and doesn't necessarily require removing any wheels. I took all 4 wheels off to clean and apply wheel wax so I took longer for the job. If you mention you are a member of NAM and order from Classic MINI you will get a good discount on parts. Look on NAM for some good installation instructions and the BMW/MINI ones to compare. You drill nothing to do the install, nor do you have to remove the bumper or anything like that. You clean the area, peel and stick the tape, remove and replace a few screws, and use some provided clips.
Price the rubber mats at Classic, or see if the dealer will inlcude them for free. Consider the rubber boot mat too it is only about $40.
The No Holes installation requires few tools or skill. A small screwdriver to pop-out the bumper blank. An adjustable wrench for the other parts, or proper sized wrenches. An allen wrench, that may be included.
Bond with your MINI if you have a little time and some mechanical ability. The clear bra is probably best installed by a pro.

You should add a Glove box Tidy and rear seat pulls from Go Mini Go. As far as I am concerned, both are required equipment.
Last couple of weeks are tough aren't they? Been there, done that.....

Go with the clear bra. Just do it. It works, and if you
don't, you will wish you had. The dealer price is a bit high, but
you get the car with it installed. There is some advantage to no
fuss, no muss. Mats are a preference - you choose. Put
something in. Get the No-holes plate mount from Go-Mini-Go - a
club sponsor and a nice guy who puts a lot of effort into this club.

Alex, Hi! I'm pretty sure we're in the same boat. Is your MINI due to hit Port Hueneme this Wednesday? On a Wallenius Wilhemson ship named Madame Butterfly? Voyage ED750-MBU? No, I don't have a life. I took the rock chip protection program. It almost sounded like it would be an insurance policy against rock dings for four years but it's not. It's the protective coating over the nose. I took that. The four years covers that protective layer against chipping or peeling.
Pat, is this rock chip protection what you're talking about here?

Ahhh - good question. I am assuming (I know, I know) that this is
a clear bra type product manufactured by 3M. Waxable, washable,
gtyd not to come loose in the first 4 years. If yes, then yes.
I anxiously await your cars with both of you. For the night before delivery, a full dose (2 tablets/capsules/whatever) of unisom. At about 7:00. Jo made me wait until late in the afternoon so she didn't have to take too much time off to take me to NW Mini to pick up my car. Glad the unisom didn't wear off until about 2:00 in the afternoon. Yes. 3M is the rock chip protection provider. "Take Sominex tonight and sleep. Safe and restful, Sleep, Sleep, Sleep."

Hi Alex
Someone just got the clear bra in the area for around 400, maybe it was down at Rasmussen to much going on I can't remember.
Mats you might be able to save 10 buck shopping.
Mud flaps this is from the people that told someone else here you can't buy them, Greg's number are on the ball depending where you get them.
Last no holes mount , Dave you must be way under market value if NW is getting 81 and an owner can get it from Go Mini Go for 50 .
So 575 vers 1145.60 seems like there is a problem with that comparison.
Just looking at the whole picture and tossing in my 2 cents

Kathy (Pigwidgin) had her's done in November after her pickup at Rasmussen, and posted a here, and also recommended someone local.
Another for Go Mini Go from me too- I had my no holes mount (and a "You were spotted" card) in the mailbox the very next day! |

Hi Dave and everyone, I'm catching up now, after being in meetings all day long. Yes, you have it correct, our minis are on the same boat. I know its expected to hit Tacoma on the 11th and my MA was telling me that I should see it a little more than a week after that. I can't wait. Alex |

The NW MINI price for the 'NO Holes' is installed. I will not comment on the price they charge; they buy them from me and resell them in the parts department.
GOMINIGO still makes a sale.
And Gearhead is correct we still offer a discount to members so PSMINI members get a great deal.

Me either. Just very recently I've started to become more and more antsy.
I thought it was odd that all the MINIs are rolling off in Port Hueneme when that ship is going on to the Port of Tacoma. I guess vehicle distribution centers are important and there just isn't one in Tacoma.

I got my 1st MINI five days after it got off the boat. It arrived at the dealer @ noon on a Saturday and I drove it home at 5pm and got stopped by the police @ 6pm( given a warning).
Also, just so you know; I actually got my MINI later then expected as the first ship my MINI was to be on sank in the English on Friday the 13th of 2002 prior to getting to England. It took three weeks for the next ship to pick it up. Edited by MINI-Rolls - January/08/08 at 8:33am |

I've been trying to find a webcam for Port Hueneme so I'll know that my ship didn't sink.
Couldn't find a webcam. I just got off the phone with a gentleman at the Oxnard Harbor District. Wallenius Wilhelmsen ship Madame Butterfly has arrived safely.
Alex, our cars are coming off the boat right now.

WELCOME! No Holes from GoMINIgo and it's a quick, very easy install. Less than NW MINI.
Dealer should throw in the floor mats - ask. They did for me and several others I talked to when I was taking delivery - ask. Mudflaps (and all accessories) from Morristown MINI are usally 20% off (go through the link on NAM) - or try Otto's MINI - installation is pretty self explanatory on the provided documentation - and you don't really need the back two as there is almost no car body to protect.
