Topic: My JCW exhaust is way too quiet :( Posted: August/22/08 at 5:29pm |
I recently bought an '03 JCW S and I am very happy with the car but the JCW exhaust sounds like a stock exhaust to me. I want some more sound out of it and some more flow but wasn't sure what my best bet is. I noticed that there is a can on the exhaust that looks like a resonator before the mufflers, can that just be removed and will that make it louder? Also has anyone added different mufflers to a JCW exhaust? Last, will an aftermarket header make a difference in sound and flow output? I am used to working on V8's this is my first 4 cylinder so am not sure what works best yet. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes, an aftermarket header will surely improve the flow and sound. I have the RMW street header along with my stock non-JCW exhaust and there is a definite "growl" to the exhaust and significant gains over stock. Price is comparable to the other vendors out there but the materials and workmanship is top notch. Email or call Jan at http://revolutionmini.com/. The street header is not on the website. Back in June, we had a tuning event in Tacoma. See http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144717 for the results. There are many vendors and products out there. The key is to figure out what works, and what doesn't.

I had a MINI Madness exhaust system installed on my MCS about a year ago. The exhaust sound is great, but not overwhelming on the highway.

I am also thinking that I may just modify my JCW exhaust. I would atleast like to keep the John Cooper Works exhaust tips on the car.

The MM exhaust tips are similiar to the JCW, just w/o the JCW logo.

I have a Magnaflow knock off (Volt) I got from DT , if interested , not nearly as great as my MM- but plenty of noise, you can't use your tips, the trumpets are welded. Great stainless and great welds, easy install, too growly for me and the MRS.

Hmmm that sounds tempting....now if I could just find someone to buy my JCW exhaust. I'll take it and if you could bring it into town that would be great. I'll give you a call. |
