Topic: Mud flaps or Not? Posted: September/26/08 at 6:31am |
Frankly I think the mud flaps look ugly, but is it a really a necessity to have on to protect the paint?

I didn't have mud flaps on my '05 (they didn't have them available then) and the rear of my car would get some coated with dirt it was terrible. Every time I would open or close the rear hatch my hands would be filthy. I did get the mud flaps on my '08 and it really makes a huge difference! And I don't think they look too bad.

If your looking at the front ones they help a little. If we are talking about the rear flaps they do great keeping dirt off the car behind you.

I can't say for sure because I have not put them on yet but I know that a winter with out them can really beat up your clear coat on the sides of the car. I bought my Cooper from a club member over in Cashmere and they must use a lot of sand on the roads in the winter. That plus having wheels and tires that stick out made it so the clear coat looks sand blasted in front of the rear wheels on the car. The plastic also looks that way. In a situation like this, I can't see them not helping at least a little .

I ended up getting a set for the fronts and installed it myself. There not exactly easy to install, but they do not look that bad. For the rear on the other hand, I'm not going to install a set of mud flaps there.

P.s. I hadn't seen you at LA Fitness since we met. Hope all is well...
