I currently have 17" with run-flats and considering getting 18" with none run-flat tires.
Has anyone done a semilar thing? I would like to hear your comments regarding ride quality.

18's normally run 205/40-18s, 17's are 205/45-17s. That is a 5% reduction in your your side wall. With that said 18s are just to stuff/firm for me. It all so depend on what kinds roads you drive on too.

Would expect it to be a pretty rough ride...and even more expensive.

Though it's not a MINI, I have Michelin 18's on another ride. I wouldn't say it's noticeably stiffer, but I think that has a lot to do with the rest of the suspension. I say that because "Sport" mode, for example, really brings out all the defects in road surfaces.

CT are the sidewalls 35 or 40% on those 18's?

245/40.
My current MINI set-up (17" non-RF, yellow Koni's and upgraded bushings in several places) falls somewhere between Normal and Sport in the Mits - perhaps a bit towards Sport. I don't think the 18's would be so bad provided you're not expecting to float down the highway - and neither is your significant other. You DO have to pay special attention to potholes!

17" runflats = harsh ride (heck any runflats are harsh). 18's will be pretty harsh too, but couldnt be any worse than 17 rf's
