I just ordered the Ireland Engineering rear sway bar for my MINI. Does anybody have this part? Doesn't look too hard to install. I'll let everyone know how it works.

It's not what you drive but how you drive it.

I have an Alta sway bar. I believe they are basically the same installation procedure.
It isn't all that hard. 1. Jack up car and remove rear wheels 2. Disconnect end links and remove rear shocks on both sides 3. Remove leading subframe bolts and allow subframe to drop down about 3-4 inches 4. Remove swaybar mounts and maneuver the bar out through the gap between the car and the lowered subframe 5. Reassemble in reverse order, remembering to lube sway bar mount points It should take around 90minutes-2 hours unless you run into a problem.

Is it advisable to upgrade any bushings in there to poly while you're at it?

You could go poly but you would have a stiffer ride. There is a tradeoff. I am not sure if there is much benefit to putting poly bushings in the rear end.

The kit comes with new bushings, not sure what they are made from though, and new endlinks.

Those are needed because the old bushings for the thinner OEM sway bar won't fit.
Bushings in that location won't affect ride stiffness. The only other soft parts back there are some sponge-like rubber at the top of the shock mounts. These are designed to compress together with the spring and protect the car from damage if the spring bottoms out. Probably not a good idea to stiffen those up. |
