That's a last chance gambit, backing up the hill. Hope I never have to use that trick, but nice to have everyone reminded of another way out of a tuff situation. With the DSC off and a run on an area you can literally crab your way through snow and ice, course with snow tires it makes a big difference. Bill

The only problem with getting a run at my driveway is that we live on a
corner, and I take a right up the hill and a left into my
driveway. If I go too fast around the corner to the right, there
is a big ol' 74 Chev 3/4 ton Camper Special pick-em up truck right in
the impact area if I hit ice thru the corner. I did try the
straighforward approach, doing a little crabbing back and forth, but
couldn't make the turn into the driveway. It works OK after the
sand truck has been by - which is what I did Saturday afternoon after I
picked the car up from the body shop. Jo's car works so well with
her all-season tires that I don't mind scrubbing off tread. Gotta
wear out these run flat things... Bill - you'll have to show me
your technique sometime (I just spin). Hopefully we won't get
another chance this year. Pat

On Ramp, using dedicated snow tires doing the crab thing, so don't want to confuse your really good performance using regular tires. We live way up on a hill and I have to get a good run and have no one in the way while making the approach to the lefthander into the court we live on, if I get slowed down, have to turn around and go again. There are some connecting streets that people sometimes pause before they are turning, then spin thier wheels and make the ice rink. Lived on this hill for 14 years, it is a twisty road and my old sports car racing days really pay off when I get loose.I also keep a small bag of cat litter in the car when we do the run across Sno-q and expect to be in ice and snow. Kind of a last chance thing. Bill

My wife is used to me using her for ballast, she just shuts her eyes. Does your JCW have a limited slip dif also? Mine car does not so hence the crab thing. Gotta go, Ciao, Bill

Ah, that's the deal - yes, I do have the LSD. And yes, both tires
spin uselessly. My next set of tires won't do such a good job of
packing the snow/ice in the treads. Pat

You have to turn that DSC off and get some good snow tires. Then rock and roll. Ciao, Bill
