I am embarking on an adventure and this seems like a good place to share.  I have located a 1967 Mini Innocenti in Italy.  On Tuesday 12/14 I will be flying to Milan to finalize the sale and to drive the car to Amsterdam for export to the USA.  I thought you might like me to do some sort of a pictoral log -

Dave (Yes I'm keeping S-WORKS)

Attached are some pictures

I am wicked jealous.  The mini looks great and the motor through the alps should be a real treat.  I recommend going through the Dolomites if possible.  That could be the most spectacular alpine scenery I've ever seen.  I had two different classic minis during the mid-90's but they were not old enough to import to the U.S.  Bare-bones yes, but go-cart yes.  Loved them.

So are you driving little greenie or S-Works to Mini Meet West in July 2005?  You're a double owner, you gotta go!  The details are here:

Greetings from Milan.  Yes I'm sitting in the lobby of my hotel typing this update.  I arrived at about 2:30pm yesterday (local time) and the owner drove me to his storage where I previewed the car.  The body is impecable having been stored for many years and having received a recent frame off repaint.  Today we will take it to his mechanic and check the compression and timing on the engine (it feels rougher than I remember even for these old cars).  If all goes well I'll be driving over to France later in the day today.

Best wishes,

Dave

I'm back!  Trip was a success although the generator almost packed it in and my windshield wipers died just north of Luxembourg.

The car is now in the capable and caring hands of Michael Bax of RiverHouse Mini in the Hague.  Early next year it will be put on a ship for Tacoma where I will pick it up.

Michael has a business restoring and modifying Minis and having seen around his operation I have no hesitation what so ever in recommending him to anyone who may be interested in buying an original Mini.

Check out his website http://www.riverhousemini.com/

and see my own pictures below.

In Luxembourg (Friday) - what's that noise?  (turned out to be the generator!)

Glad you had a great trip.  It looked like it was lots of fun.

You need to really stop posting links to the sites to purchase older Minis.  You are getting me in trouble...  Under 15k for a restored Mini is making me look deep into the bank account.

Meg is getting upset......no more toys...

Wow - it's been a long time!!  So the Innocenti is on the water - funnily enough with the same carrier that brings most Minis to the USA.  Here is the car waiting at the dock:

Naturally there will be a coming out party when she arrives on or about 4/16/05!  Of course you're all invited -

It ain't small that's for sure:

MV Torrens:
A PCTC (Pure car and truck carrier) 61.321 GT, length 199,99 meters, width 32,26 meters and draft fully loaded 10,5 meters.

Note that the maximum allowed width of a vessel traversing the Panama Canal is 32.3 meters!

I wonder how many Minis would fit on this sucker!

Congrats on your new arrival.  I see your baby is being shipped with some "lelijke eends" (Citroen 2CV's).  'Lelijke eend' means "ugly duckling in Dutch.  The car was a 2-cylinder with front wheel drive, unibody suspension, linked coil suspension, and it was air-cooled.  My father had one that he drove over the frozen Ijsselmeer (the former Zuider Zee) at night with nothing but a lighthouse from a former island to guide him.  Shows good judgment that has been passed on to me.  I remember riding in one with its rag top and amazing handling, especially with parking it.  Funky creatures.

May they all arrive as friends.

Again, congrats!

Ina

Hi Ina - never really felt like I wanted a 2CV!  Mind you the car chase in For Your Eyes Only was fun.
