Sorry to post this, but SSSCC will have a 3 day event that weekend as well!
Hopefully I can make it to at least one event no matter where!

Just to bring this back to the top...

SCCA is holding an event on Sunday in the normal autox area.  BSCC is holding a practice at the same time at the top end to the left from the site entrance.

Monday is a regular BSCC event.

If you are a PCA member, or are invited by one, Saturday is a PCA autocross.

I'm in for Monday. I am running in the SS class instead of Novice this time, so I will be there for the afternoon session. I could only swing one day so I thought I would stay with BSCC.

Anyone else running this weekend?

May try to swing Sunday.  Can't do Monday, I think.  And I know that though this would be my first time, I am way out of any of stock class.

I would like to try on Monday, but it's a full day off for the whole family. What class would I be in again, Gordon?

Posted By: garumph
Date Posted: May/22/08 at 11:13am
Starting out go Novice. You can then run anytime, morning or afternoon. Also as a novice the teachers will usually jump in your car for a run or two to give pointers. Also in novice it doesn't matter what you have done on your car.  Within each run group everyone mixes up so you could have a novice and sport A right after each other, but you are all on the same course with the same rules.

It is a heck of a lot of fun you and Andy can share a car and run in the same group. The shared car line goes twice as often as the single driver line. Definite advantage as it keeps the tires warm. I can't convince Shelly to try it. At $25 a driver it is a deal.

Doesn't really matter.  I would probably run Scoop. I would go with whichever has the best rubber.

Won't be able to make this one as we will be on the eastside camping...unless the weather craps out....then I might be there and just have to register day of. Really looking forward to trying out the new coilovers and see what a difference it makes. Just had my alignment done at Cantrell Motorsports today...boy does have some grip now!!!

So Novice doesn't really get put into the exact class that the car qualifies under?  Hmmm...

novice class does not make allowances for car prep  (other than race tires are not allowed)
It is just a good place to figure out how things work, while letting the regulars know you are a newbie, so they can provide assistance

motoring, that was your MINI that you were changing the tires on when I pulled in? Shoot, I should have come by and said hi.

I have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eItJ11nf4Hw - in car video of my 4 runs.

I wish I had some video of Dean "Kone Killer" Prince (MiniCharley) he spun in the finish chute after a great run and they only gave him 6 cones ( I thought it should be closer to a dozen)

Martin (Wildfamily) had a tough morning, but was stellar the afternoon.

We even got to run in the sun and dry. Good times.

What a day!!!!   I'm surprised I only took out 6 cones too!!   I counted 10 as I was hitting them!!    You have to admit, it made for an exciting finish!  I wish I had a video of it too.   It was more than a cone kill .....   it was a cone massacre!  WooHoo

Keith - it was good to meet you and your wife!   If you want some tips on how to finish big, just let me know, I'd be happy to share my "special finish" that Gordon spoke of..    I'd love to get your tips on how to get the mini on 3 wheels!  Very impressive.

SS in WWSCC is not Small sedan...  it is super stock.  Home of corvettes and vipers.

You should change to Stock E

Keith,

It was nice meeting you and your wife. That is quite a trailer set up you have. Love how the miata fits in right under the Mini! Cool stuff. Oh, and tell your wife that I was impressed with her driving. Not sure if you noticed but she actually got on 2 wheels on the back stretch for a milisecond!

I was having some visualization issues in section 1-2 in the AM session so that was a throw away, but PM went really well and turned in some nice times. Was great running with all of you again. Dean...I think we need to call Charley..Charley Manson since he is now a "mass murderer" of cones! LOL That was awesome!

Plugging in our actual pax value of .815 (TO gets 1.000) I end up paxing 4th overall (39.797) and Kristi paxed 7th (40.567)       Gordon's actual index time is 45.272Thumbs%20Up  I'm not sure of Dean and Martin, I will assume a Street Mod index (because of the pulley...)  Martin 46.756, Dean 48.898

the only events that the top pax listing really works is SCCA, because that is only club that exclusively uses SCCA classing, and there are no indexes for the non-scca classes.

Notice that the pax times are the same as the top times for all the drivers that don't have a class listed as x**  (XSTX or XSS for the top two drivers)

Yes,  practice practice practice...   I have been doing this for almost 10 years. (finding that hard to believe)

I do give ride-alongs,  and ride with folks as much as possible.  But my first responsibility is to my wife...   I also don't drive the MINI at every event, and the Miata doesn't have a passenger seat.

I understand, It was more of a rhetorical question. It is just frustrating coming into this sport. There are no descriptions on the sign in page so you have to be on your toes to make sure you are in the right class. With SS meaning two completely different things, I know I am going to show up for the wrong class one of these days.

Keith,

Where do you get the index from. I see that you use a different index for Gordon (stock)..is that because his car is a different build year? Dean and I have mods so understand that as well, but where can we find the index values? Still learning here so bare with me.

the list of indexes are http://www.scca-chicago.com/solo/indexes/rtp2008.html - here

there is a little history there, each class has an index   my car is G Stock (GS), Gordon's is H Stock (HS).  Yours is something higher.  I guessed Street Mod (SM)

Classing gets odd, the rules sometimes do not take into account simple mods, and bump you to a much higher class.   If you had a JCW (including the JCW pulley) you could run STX or DSP.  But since you have an aftermarket pulley, you are in SM or higher.

since you are not playing for real, I would look more directly at the DSP index in doing comparisons.  that is assuming you car makes similar power to a JCW or GP in stock form

I want something street legal, I don't want to have to be swapping wheels all the time. I have my all seasons on 15" rims that I can swap out for daily driving, but I don't want to have to do it every time I get to the track. I would like to keep it around $100 a tire.

I have x-lite rims (16"x6.5)

two choices for ultra high performance tires in your budget.

Falken RT-615   in a 215/45/16  $92  http://www.vulcantire.com - www.vulcantire.com
Dunlop Direzza Z1 StarSpec  205/50/16  $107  http://www.tirerack.com - www.tirerack.com

both are great, but I would give the advantage to the dunlops

From looking at the video and thinking back. 3 things:

1. Get moving off the line. I putzed around for too long after the start
b. slow down on the turn around. I'm not trying to go fast, I am trying to go the other direction.
III. the left hander after the cross over, why was I aiming for the turn cone? I should be rounding the corner more to set myself up for the next turn.
