What R compound tires do you run for autoX and lapping day? There doesn't seem to be much selection that's a perfect overall diameter fit for R50~53.
Thanks in advance for your comments. PS: Admin, sorry for the multiple posts on this topic, wasn't sure where I would get more responses. |

As I am kicking around what wheel tire combo to get for autox, I was wondering about going with 15" wheels and lower profile tires. I want to stay stock for class so I am stuck with 15 or 16 inch wheels (I have a JustAcooper).
I know the speed and distance will be off, but that is not a huge deal for autox. It should also up my torque a bit and push up the revs at a given speed. But does this sound like a bad idea? I plan on keeping my stock 15 inch wheels and tires for normal driving. Edited by garumph - April/18/08 at 4:07am |

When I was active in Autox, there was a lot of Honda guys running smaller than stock overall diameter tires (we are talking about >10% smaller) to help with the low torque high RPM nature of Honda VTEC engine. So you won't be the first to do something like it.

I'm running 215/40X17 Falken Azenis RT-615's for lapping. Nice dry tire.

pure13,
Wish I could help you by addressing your tire question, but there are more informed people around who can provide better help.
I don't think that you did anything wrong about posting in multiple places. In fact, you did the right thing. Most of us tend to target certain threads and don't pay attention to all of them. Some people post once, get no response and get discouraged thinking that no one cares. I think that, so often, posts and questions simply get missed. Also, it might help to revive your question(s) in a few weeks or month or so, when others comeback from vacations, business trips, etc and have the opportunity to read your posts.
Regards,

After talking to TireRack I decided to go with Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
in 215/45/17 for now. In their preliminary test Direzza is only 2nd to Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R in the Extreme Summer category. Also found out Yokohama A048 in 215/45/17 is available at Tirerack but at whopping $245 a pop. Since MINI will be daily driver for another 6 month, Dunlop will be good enough for now.
