the 2nd Sound to Summit Rally When: Saturday August 8th 2015, Meet 08:15AM, Drivers Meeting 08:30AM Start: Tulalip Resort & Casino 9810 Quil Ceda Blvd, Marysville, WA 98271 Arrive at southeast parking lot located at Quil Ceda Blvd & 99th PL NE (next to Cabela's) End: New York Pizza 902 N State St #105, Bellingham, WA 98225 Previous Year Info: 2013! RSVP: Most helpful, we need an accurate count as we’re organizing both lunch and dinner stops. Please indicate how many of your party will be joining us for lunch and/or dinner. Thank you. Cost: The drive costs you nothing to participate but do note these costs: You must obtain a US Forest Service Recreation Pass as our Artist Point stop requires the pass to be displayed in order to park. You can now print your day pass online: National Forest Recreation ePass (Day Pass). The day pass is $5. Additionally, it is $3 (cash only) to park at our La Conner stop if you park at the Marina. Parking on the street in La Conner is limited but free. We will regroup and leave from the Marina so $3 is easy and free is a little less easy. Details: Drive along Puget Sound with stops at La Conner, Maple Falls, Mt. Baker/Artist Point, and ending the day with a group dinner in Bellingham. Of course we’ll be taking a few back roads & twisties along the way...this is a MINI event after all! We are lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest where we have access to an amazing topography of waterfront views, small towns, agricultural areas, forests, and mountain areas all within a few hours of each other. Many of these areas are accessible by scenic byways making for an experience unique to the Northwest. On this drive we’ll take full advantage of such luxuries while avoiding the major freeways and highways wherever possible. Here is a summary of this full day drive: - From our starting point, we’ll head north along Tulalip Bay, Port Susan, and Skagit Bay. - We’ll make our first pit stop in historic La Conner for coffee (stop in at Caffee Jubilee for a discount) & a restroom break. - After our pit stop, we’ll motor north along Padilla & Samish Bay before heading east on our way towards the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie forest. - Along our easterly route we’ll enjoy the backroads & the sights along Lake Whatcom before stopping for lunch in the small town of Maple Falls. Actual lunch stop is TBD at the moment. It will be dependent on attendance so please RSVP. Thank you. - All of this is merely a prelude to our featured destination for the day, Artist Point. This unique mountain area at the end of Hwy 542 is only open during the summer months and boasts one of a kind views of Mts. Shuksan & Baker. Not to mention the mountain twisties along the way. We’ll climb approximately 5,000 feet above sea level so it’s highly recommended you bring a coat or jacket. - We’ll wrap up our day with tales of our driving adventures & group camaraderie over dinner at New York Pizza Restaurant in Bellingham. What to Bring: - Full tank of gas - FRS Radio, channel 7 sub-channel 21 (arrive early and we can help you get it set-up) - Cash is appreciated by the shops in La Conner and Maple Falls - Umbrella and/or sunscreen (check the weather) - Camera, you'll want to capture the views on this one. - Water, stay hydrated and remember Artist Point is 5000+ feet above sea-level. - Snacks and water. - A sturdy pair of shoes if you feel like venturing out into the snow; no snow this year :.( . - A coat or jacket, did we mention Artist Point is at 5000+ feet? - RSVP very helpful, as we are organizing lunch and dinner stops for this event. National Forest Recreation Day Use Passes are required to be displayed when parked at Artist Point. You'll need to obtain a pass before arriving at Artist Point to avoid being ticketed. National Forest Recreation ePass (Day Pass) can be purchased by clicking here. * Please note that this day use pass is furnished by the US Forestry Service. This is different than the popular Discover Pass which is valid for use ONLY at Washington State Parks. For more details on the NW Forest pass click here. Host Hotel: We have not organized a host hotel this year. We will be leaving from the Tulip Casino parking lot. The Casino is the closest hotel. There are many others in the area. If you’d like to get as much sleep as possible we recommend spending the night near the Tulalip. Rally Masters: Special thanks for the planning of this event goes to Leo & Erin (leogetz) and Ryan (ipeverywhere) & Tracey.TODAY Attendees:

Count newbies Ann & Dave in!
Question about FRS radios - will a little Motorola walkie-talkie do the trick, or is something more sophisticated recommended?

We do not have an ETA for LaConnor. Most will park at the Marina and we will leave from there. Additionally, I will be headed directly to Cafe Jubilee for a coffee as soon as we get there. So, you can hang out there and just wave frantically at the all of the MINI clothed people walking in. |

Awesome tour and fun roads! Thanks Ryan and everyone involved with organizing and leading this tour, and keeping us together on the roads. The route was fantastic and ideal for our Minis. My Cooper S is the most fun car ever, and this tour demonstrated that.

Triple ditto for Ryan and his team. Amazing scenes and twisty roads. Cheetah's paws are mighty tired and glad she has good brakes. Thank you for a amazing drive.
