I thought it was time for South Sounders to get together for one of our irregularly scheduled lunches.  I was thinking of the week of June 3rd, but we can be flexible.  We usually meet at the Varsity Grill in Tacoma, but I think I read that it is closed while new owners are redoing it.  I'll look into that. As always, anyone is welcome to come and join us.

I checked today with the Varsity Grill.  They are under new ownership and will be closed Wednesday June 5th.  I have a couple of suggestions.  We could eat at a Mexican restaurant called (what else) El Toro.  It is very close to the Varsity (1128 Broadway) and would be convenient for downtown people.  I have never eaten there and know nothing about it.  They did tell me they could accommodate our group.  We could eat at the Hub.  It is on Tacoma Avenue across from the Temple theater.  It serves pizza, sandwiches, and salads.  We could go to a restaurant on the waterfront on Ruston Way, but that may be a little far for downtowners.  We could also set this over about a week.  The Varsity Grill is supposed to reopen on Friday, June 7th.
 
Let me know what everyone wants to do.

I like The Hub. I have enjoyed it every time I have been there.   

Like you, I have never eaten at El Toro...but the Google+ reviews are all very positive.

I like the food at El Toro but we quit going thereafter more than one of our group got sick.  Different times, too.  The Hub is good, or take the tram down to the University stop and walk a block to Harmons (related to the Hub I think).

I don't think I would recommend a place called Boathouse 19 on Day Island for one of our lunches, but holy cow is that place good.  Easy to find.  from Jackson, follow 19th down to the water and trun right after you cross the tracks.  If we want to drive though - AWESOME place. 

Oh - count me in wherever we go.

We'll do whatever you'd like. I'm familiar with El Toro and have never had any problems with them. One of our favorites on Ruston is Katie Downs. My only problem is that I have to be back to work by 1:30 for a meeting that day.

In deference to Pat lets skip the Mexican place.  By the way Pat, I've been to the Boathouse on Day Island and it's great.  Maybe a summer lunch there when schedules are looser.  I just checked on Schuster Parkway and the southbound lanes are closed for the next 6 to 8 weeks.  Apparently they reroute you at Dock Street.  This isn't a problem for me but may be for some of you.  For this lunch lets do the Hub at 11:45.

The Hub. 203 Tacoma Ave S. Tacoma, WA

Stadium Way, which is the easiest way to get there is under construction. Take I-705 into Tacoma keep to the right headed to Schuster Parkway. Take the Stadium Way exit, turn left at the light at the end of the off ramp onto Commerce Street. Right on 9th up the hill. Right on Tacoma Ave and then to The Hub on the right about half a mile down the road.

We are dodging other appointments that week and I am putting SMOG-2 back together, again...

Thanks Leanne!  We will try to make it.  I got SMOG-2 back together and MAYBE found the source of my strut clunk, fingers, toes and everything else crossed...
