Hi all,

Yesterday I noticed a high pitched squeal from under the hood around the belt location.  A little research on NAM and MINI2 revealed that it's not an uncommon problem on the '05 Minis.  It appears to be related to the belt tensioner.  It starts once the engine is hot and kicks in around 2500rpm.  Anyone encounter this locally?

Also, I talked to Dan in Service at NW Mini, he hadn't come across the problem yet.  He said they're 3 weeks out for a service appointment, is that normal for them?

Thanks,

Brett

our 05 mcsc has had no squeal under the hood , as for the service appointment I  had to wait 2 weeks for a boot sensor and service engine light if I was worried about being stranded some place have it towed in they would work it in . When your the only game in town it puts us between a rock and a hard place .Hang in there ,stories of other dealers we have it pretty good .......

Thanks for the comforting words Mayhem.  I'll just wait it out.  If it gets any worse I'll have Roadside Assistance come get the car.  I'd rather have it sitting in my garage for three weeks then in the dealers lot for one.

We've had our MCS for barely a month now and are experiencing a similar noise.  It's a "whirring" from the right front (at least it sounds that way).  At first NW Mini thought it was the serpentine belt, so replaced that.  That didn't resolve it so we got a new water pump (we had a coolant leak so it needed to be done anyway, but we were all hoping it was related).

Took it back in last week and Steve tried replacing the belt again.  No luck.  He's thinking it may be a pulley problem at this point so we are getting ready to try that one.  We've had this problem since day 1 and have yet to figure out the source.  But NW Mini has been really good about trying things, squeezing us in when service slots open up and keeping us running.

Only thing we seem to have in common is that both cars are MCSa.  Well that and both are CR/B - that couldn't be it, could it?

Maybe all CR/B MCSa's are prone to this problem. Mine seems to happen
with the warmer weather once the engine heats up. We're definitely not
alone, there's a gaggle of people on NAM and Mini2 that have the same
problem. Mine's going in on August 10th so they can take a crack at it.
Keep me posted what you find out on your visits to NWMini.

Have you had the SES and EML lights come on yet? I only had that the
first day, then they cleared themselves.
