I think this is worth passing on.  New tires may be much older than one thinks.  A code on the tires indicates month and year of manufacture.

Rule of thumb consideration - if it takes about 2 years to wear out the tread, one might want to consider a max life of 4 years rather than 6 years when evaluating a new tire purchase.

	2008 MCS : almost 92k miles, full Service Bulletin SIM 11 02 07 performed at 63,964 by a Mini dealer. So far, so good.

	And another tip......most manufacturers now consider a tire older than 6 yrs as out of warranty.

	Wow. Good stuff. Thank you so much. Since Cupcake (Andy's car) puts on less than 1,000 miles per year I haven't even thought about changing the tread. But, seriously, since it has been four years since she got new rubber, I think it's time to visit Ye Olde Tread Shoppe for some new shoes this fall, even though there has been little or no wear.
