I just upgraded my NAV software to the new Version 27.  It's kinda kool, it adds a 3D perspective to the display.  I need to drive around a little more with the 3D perspective enabled to see if I prefer it to a flat screen, but it's kinda cool.  More info and links to the new software is at:

Is it possible to upgrade from the CD system to the DVD system to be able to 'take advantage' of this new feature?  Also, is it selectable, or is it once you have V27 installed, you only get the perspective view?

You still have your choice of the map pointing north, pointing in the direction of travel or perspective.

From what I have read, the upgrade applies to the Mk IV systems.  The CD based systems are Mk III.  There may be something equivalent for the Mk III systems but you'd have to search for it.

Is it possible to get a Mk IV system installed into a 2003 MCS that came from the factory with a MK III system?
I would think that the units would be the same size and shape to avoid having to redesign the mounts under the seat and behind the dash, but i could be wrong.

don't know about retrofitting the newer system, but the nav update is pretty cool to look at.  I don't find it very usefull however because I can't tell the names of the streets coming up...

now all they need is the ability to link up with live.local.com for 3-d views of the buildings you are driving by.

What i would really like to see is a way to link into the state traffic monitoring system.  Having the freeways color coded with the current traffic conditions would be nice when it comes to seeing problems coming up and avoiding them.  Obviously, getting the live traffic cams is pretty much out of the question for now, but being able to tell where there is abnormal traffic levels could be a lifesaver.
