The prices are a bit higher this year, but it's due to the fact we lost our venue for the last couple of years, Varsity Grill, when Jeff, the Manager and a member of our club, moved out of the area. He was able to give us incredible pricing.  We all so appreciated his generosity  and a great buffet

Our  Board has been very generous with their allowance for this party in order to keep the pricing down. We know that you won't be disappointed.

Respectfully Submitted,

2009 PS MINI Motoring Club's Christmas Party Committee and Board of Directors

Just to clarify, For a husband and wife with one PSMINI membership, would the cost be $26 + $35, or $26 each?  I'm guessing one discount per membership card and the spouse would pay the non-member price, but you know what happens when you assume.  Thanks

I'm sorry to stir the pot, but after the recent by-laws discussion and after reading the current bylaws, I noted that under Article IV it states that "One spouse or significant other, per paid membership, shall also be considered a member with all the rights and privileges of Club membership."  To me this indicates that a spouse or significant other should be able to pay the member price for the banquet.  Am I misinterpreting something here?

Leanne:
It does get a little confusing and that Article should be clarified in the revisions since the same question comes up when it's time to vote.  We're trying to offer as much as we can for the party, but with the additional club costs associated with catering, tables, linens, etc., we feel like we can only afford to do one discount per paid membership, which is the same approach taken for prior holiday events.  Hope that helps.

As Linda said, this is always a issue when it comes to the elections as well.

I'm not sure how many actual paid dual memberships where both spouses/significant others have their own memberships in PSMini, but I would be willing to bet that you can count them on one hand.

It's a bargain compared to the BMW Club holiday party which costs $59.95! We MINI folks do everything for less. Wink

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way.

You know, the organizers did poll everyone back in July asking for feedback about pricing, and I expect they've worked very hard to come up with options that fall in line with the input that was provided.  We were very fortunate in past years because we didn't need to pay a caterer, or staff, rent tables, etc, but you work with what you have.

Actually in years past we did pay the staff.  The price was not just because one member managed the location, I am really tired of people posting that this is why it more expensive this year.  We shopped around and found many locations that offered the same pricing.   Also, two years ago we had more people than expected and we had to pay for additional tables.

It took alot of work to get the pricing where is was in the past to offer the best for the group.    And I gave my feedback to group back in July and it was ignored.

Having organized events for previous employers and family, I know that having an event in a venue where everything has to be purchased “ala carte” is typically more expensive than having it at a restaurant, casino or hotel where many of the “ala carte” items such as linens, tables, catering, etc., are part of a standard price.  As we were able to see at the Seattle MINI opening, it is a beautiful venue for a party.

Raising 3 very big, athletic, active boys, our monthly grocery bill was larger than our mortgage for about 10 years. I totally understand. We didn't take the boys to expensive dinners (plus they just didn't fit in). Now buffets.....you bet! I swear, the restaurants/buffets LOST money with us when we took the boys. I remember taking whole baseball teams to buffets. We were asked to LEAVE!!! You simply can NOT fill up teenage boys. If you have small eaters, a buffet is a losing proposition and I wouldn't do it either. Bring on your big eaters! Heck.....maybe I'll get them to the party! They're now in their 20's...not nearly as big eaters as they used to be but they can still put it away. (They play rugby!)
Bottom line, if your family doesn't eat BIG, no....it's not a good idea. The food sounds great though! Wayne and I never eat enough to cover the costs of these things, but then we're not feeding bottomless pits anymore and we only need to pay for the 2 of us.
It's not a criticism for the cost or the food or the people who planned it. It's about cost effectiveness and family budget. Been there....Done that.
How much does a baby sitter cost? That's not cheap either.
We're new to PS-MINI but for the most part, all the events have very easy on the budget. This one is more, but it's a great menu and sounds like fun with extra activities - SANTA will be there!
Sounds like the committee who put this together spent a lot of time. There's more than just food. It's an event.

No, payment must be received by December 6 (so they can tell the caterer how much food to provide I think).  See the first post in the official party thread for payment instructions - you can pay by paypal or by mail:

Yes, we have to turn in the final attendance count to the caterer the first part of that week so he can order all of the food and  party rental needs as well.  Sorry, we cannot extend the payment date past the 6th of December.
